Meditate. Why? Meditate to use Laws of Success? Is it a fad to meditate? Meditation is a practice to allow you to use more of your brain and creativity. Meditation is a doorway to reconnect with your essential self. Today we want to talk directly to your left brain; your reasoning brain, the left brain that you were trained to use by education. If you understand the logic about how the right brain and the left brain functions, you can choose to make more space for the right side of the brain. When you can not use your right brain as well as your left brain, you are crippled. Faith, Trust, Knowing the Mystery, Expectation, Wonder, and Imagination are all attributes of the right side of the brain. You need all those capacities as well as your logic, in order to operate the Laws of Success. When you meditate you have access to both your left and right brain. That is why it is essential to meditate in order to use the laws of success

You were functioning mostly in your right hand brain between the ages of 7 and 14. This level can be measured in brain cycles per second called hertz. You brain waves vibrate from 7 to 14 hertz per second. This level is called alpha. Your right brain is where you can connect with your intuition. Your right brain is creative, imaginative. It allows you to see things holistically. The world you focus on is your subjective experience. We can be anywhere or anyplace and in any time in our imagination. Thoughts and images are the primary vehicle of this state. When you meditate, you slow your brain cycles down enough so you can access you right brain. When you meditate your brain slows down to the alpha level.

You probably switched over to using your left brain when you were around 14. When you function primarily from the left side of the brain, your brain waves move in a faster frequency (14 to 21 hertz per second). This level is called beta. You are focused on the outside world and preoccupied with what outside sources think. You are action oriented. We learn this as a result of going to school. That is where we become preoccupied with what we can see, touch, and hear. We learn to only trust the physical world that we know through our senses. We learned to look at parts, instead of the whole. A lot of us left behind the use of our right brain, because our environment was requesting that we use only our left brain. As adults, many of us have forged a rut and only operate on beta brain cycles. We are limited to knowing only through our five senses. We focus on time and the space we can see or know about. It’s a pretty barren universe from this left brain perspective. When we live in the beta level of everyday consciousness, we are not tuned into our other capacities such as intuition, imagination, expectation of good things, seeing the integral connectivity of life.

If you sit down to meditate and your mind has been in the beta rut for years, thoughts just circle frantically with a buzz. It is very difficult to turn off rampant thought which is obsessing about the outside world. That is why meditation is a practice. We have to learn how to slow our brain waves down. Meditation is the practice of slowing ourselves down, inside and out, so that we can access both sides of our brains, and the greater aspects of ourselves.

To meditate is to allow your brain to slow itself down, to the lower brain frequencies of the alpha state. If you have ever done a guided meditation, you know that you can go anywhere in that meditative state – a warm beach, a beautiful summer meadow, and your outside focuses shifts into a slower mode where you relax deeply and tune into the parts of you that are not accessible when the brain is running at the faster frequencies of beta. It is important to go forth and meditate, meditate, meditate, and meditate some more. As you meditate, you can tap into those other aspects of you so necessary to the Law of Success. See this post about Meditation.

Raise your vibration to reap the rewards of the law of success and the law of attraction. Raise your vibration means to allow yourself to resonate with success. Raise your vibration means to resonate all of you with that which you would like.

The universe wants to give us that which we ask for. We ask. Then we have to allow the frequency of ourselves, our actions, our thoughts and our feelings to match with that for which we have asked. Your emotions are the signposts that tell you where you are vibrating. Most of people who do not have the success they want have a gap between what they want and where they are currently vibrating. You may want to learn to raise your vibration.

When you are full of life and expectancy of what adventures your life offers, grateful and exuberant, you will get what you ask for. Many people however, vibrate down in despair, poverty, fear, struggle and overwhelm. Those lowest areas are real solid, almost like molasses. It is hard to raise your vibration when you are stuck in an emotional swamp.

The emotional scale from Esther Hicks is a powerful tool to use to find out where you are resonating. It is also a powerful tool to help you move into a higher frequency, to raise your vibration. If you are in jealousy, envious of others’ success, and doubt your own ability to be successful, you cannot immediately go to love and joy. It is just too big a leap. Being angry is up the emotional scale, and has more movement to it. Being angry is not the end goal. To raise your vibration from jealousy and envy, you might be angry with yourself that you haven’t got what you want yet. Your just raised your vibration. Being angry does feel a little better and more empowered than being envious.

I have found that by reaching for anger, irritation, and then hope, that these emotional states have movement in them, places where you can leap from, towards something better. This is the way to raise your vibration. Usually the lower feelings on the emotional scale relate to just barely getting by, feelings impoverished in some way. Survival needs are the most important things you think about. And many feel victimized by being in this state.

So no way can you feel exuberant about being alive. But by having a goal to moving to a state of feelings where you can begin to hope for something better, makes you happier, and changes your vibration. This will raise your vibration. Each stage along the emotional scale allows you more freedom and empowerment, and you can begin to stretch your imagination and hope, and finally get to the place where you are actively expecting your miracles to happen.

This is a huge journey of awareness. Celebrate every movement you make up the emotional scale. And when you waver, just remember to reach for feelings just above where you are, and you will feel yourself having a bit of relief and opening. You will raise your vibration that way.

Below is the emotional scale from Ask and it is Given.

Joy/Knowledge/Empowerment/Freedom/Love/Appreciation
Passion
Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Happiness
Positive Expectation/Belief
Optimism
Hopefulness
Contentment
Boredom
Pessimism
Frustration/Irritation/Impatience
Overwhelment
Disappointment
Doubt
Worry
Blame
Discouragement
Anger
Revenge
Hatred/Rage
Jealousy
Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness
Fear/Grief/Depression/Despair/Powerlessness

Law of Success and Attraction allowed me seven months of exquisite travel and being in Flow. I was tuned in, tapped in, and exultant with gratitude of seeing wonderful friends and being with dear family. Not every minute was outrageously wonderful, but I practiced seeing the best in the situation and looking for the mystery that brought it all together. Every morning, I set my intention to be present, to come from my heart, and radiate fullness and caring. I was constantly delighted with beautiful cloud formations, lovely Gulf waters, and succulent vegetation. I was alive, exuberant, and flowing with gratitude and secret appreciation that I practiced the universal laws of success and attraction, and they generously and lavishly cared for my every want and need.

When I arrived home, I was full buoyant and happy. I took care of the dead battery in my car, and moved into my new apartment. Within days, my fullness skidded to a painful stop. I was adjusting to a new city, a new roommate, and dreary weather. Well. So uncomfortable things happen, even to people who are flowing in the current of wellbeing, don’t they? I got smaller, depressed, cut my self off from flow. I escaped into reading and watching TV. My motivation diminished. It was very uncomfortable, painful, and I couldn’t get out. I got sick from food poisoning after cooking a wonderful meal for myself. Two days later, I fell and cracked a rib. The contrast of doing so well and then feeling so poorly was awful.

Here’s a part of the journal entry that helped me find perspective.

“All that current moving so fast was like water in an engorged river-hitting a dam of logs. I was stunned and off kilter after the impact and didn’t know what hit me. I didn’t quite comprehend that I had stopped being in the flow and smashed myself into all the rigidities that reared themselves.

I was so judgmental of myself for allowing myself to be victim again. So mad that I was trapped in smallness again. The little part of me was still stunned and reeling. The judge in me railing away at the stunned shocked body and little kid who was still awash in all the water cascading into the logs, completely lost from the banks and from the flow.

I remember the shock now, but thought that was it was just because I moved and everything was way different. I had also stopped traveling and I thought it was just the transition between traveling and being rooted in a new place. Perhaps it was the transition from being with so many people to being alone, not surrounded by the love. I felt like I stepped out of one universe into another.

And because most of it was all happening energetically, I didn’t see the energetic event; I was lost in the consequences. By that time, I was in victim and kept looking for the cause through eyes of blame.”

This morning I went to a brand new church, and the minister confessed she had no talk prepared because of a series of events that went from the magic of seeing all the lights of Ashland turn on to having a daughter severely sprain an ankle and come home unexpectedly with her three year old child. Another friend of mine who is actively trying to start a new business took her Mom and family to Oregon for Thanksgiving with her sister’s family. Mom suffered acute pain and needed to come to live with my friend. Esther Hick’s husband Jerry passed on this past week.

Things happen unexpectedly even to those people who are in flow and what do we do? How do we handle those challenging times? Here I am in a life I love and have created and surrounded by people who think similarly as I do. And still stuff happens.

External circumstances will impact our life whether it is 2001 or 2011. Each of these times gives us a new opportunity to reach for more growth. And they are not without pain. But whoever said life was always pain free. Some of the times when I was in great sorrow were also the times when I was most alive, heart felt and connected – like when each of my parents died.

When I was rereading the notebook in which I was writing the above journal, I came across another entry right after I arrived home when I was on top of the world. I entered into a meditative style of writing where my higher self talks to me. Here are two excerpts.

“You are moving very fast in the stream, and if you hesitate or stop - the stream the flow pushes at your stilled body and you feel pushed. You have stepped up your vibration increment by increment and now energy is moving in lightening speed.”
…….
I was a bit hesitant and a bit scared of the responsibility, I replied. Then an answer came.
“This allows you to know the import of this. To hesitate now is to move backwards or even stop – and that will create great difficulty for you.”

How little did I know how true were those words.

So now as I look back, I see that I practiced everything I knew on my trip, and when I returned home, I received an statement from my soul that the world urgently needs us – me specifically – to do our work. I hesitated. I forgot to practice all the things I had been practicing while I was traveling. As Abraham says, it’s like driving in a car at 50 miles an hour and crashing into a tree. The spiritual path is not always bliss. I went through three or four major transitions at one time, and as is natural, I fell into the older habitual patterns.

So how do we recover? I can tell you what works for me. It really helps me to understand what happened. Then I gain perspective and can reach for better feeling thoughts and actions and flow into the more adult, successful me. I have the knowledge of Psychosynthesis to understand all these aspects of life that I created to cope. But that was not enough. When we are trapped inside an identification that has great power – such as victim, it takes some monumental effort to get out.

For me, journal writing is very helpful. I trust the process, and after a while, my greater self will reveal to me what is going on. It also helps me to talk with others, and I did this time too, and got different clues. I asked for help, specifically for prayers to support me during the process. Knowing that my family was thinking about me, caring about me and sending prayers for me helped.

My daughter gave me an indication of the truth. She reminded me that I had run into a tree going 60 miles an hour. But I didn’t fully understand what I had done with the flow of energy, until I wrote about it. She also invited me to practice gratitude. That helped. She asked me if I was meditating.

When stuck in victim energy, vibration is slow, energy is stagnant and hard to move, and it takes more effort to get unstuck. When I am in victim energy, it is very hard to reach for meditation – which is a much higher frequency. So instead of making myself bad and wrong, I just reached for something I could do. I could journal.

Once I did my journaling which happened on Thanksgiving Day, I felt a surge of understanding, and took a deep breath. “Of course! That was what had happened. Of course I felt shock. Of course I felt disoriented. Of course transitions aren’t the easiest for me. Of course there had been a lot going on. No wonder I fell into an old pattern.” Just that simple understanding, and acceptance, gave me so much more room and energy for movement.

When I stopped judging and felt some compassion for myself, I moved up the vibrational scale. And just a little movement, gives access to more things. I could see better, think better, and have more motivation.

My body had been very stiff especially after I broke my rib, and I read some research about people in Okinawa who lived very long lives. A 100 year old woman still gets up and sells her wares every day. After I read that, I started to give thanks for every movement I made with my body, because it helped my body stay flexible.

I gained weight on that trip, and in the same research, I read how we eat about 550 calories a day too much, and it would take two and a half hours of hard work out the same day to take off those extra calories. All of a sudden I am finding that I want to count calories. This morning, I looked at the cookies and cakes at the hospitality table and asked myself if I wanted those calories. Instead I picked up a slice of apple.

Another thing I did while I was so stuck, is that I got out my Abraham tapes, and played one every morning. Inspiration helps me move. If nothing else, it gives me hope to persevere when I am depressed.

I sang. In a community chorus, this season we are singing gospel songs, last season it was the Beatles and before that it was Celtic songs. Raising my voice always lifts my spirits. I had to work diligently to learn some complex parts, and the focus helped move my energy. When I am in the car traveling, I put in practice tapes, and sing along. Or I can listen to inspirational tapes and cd’s in the car.

Difficult times in which we are stuck sometimes calls for exceptional measures. I bought some subliminal tapes to watch. I have one on loving myself, and remembering my self esteem, one on health, one on attracting new friends, and several integrative ones.

This morning, as soon as woke, I listened to one, and it happened to be on health. When I came home from church, I pulled out a video tape that I have been carrying around for a couple of years called beginner’s Tai Chi. It was perfect. Tai Chi is a gentle movement that can be done as a meditation. This one was situated on the peachy beige sand of Maui surrounded by green and blue waters. I felt as though I was right there with him listening to the water, watching the sunrise, and stretching my body. Late in the evening, the sun came out, and I went for a mile walk along the waterfront. Remember just a week ago, I had little motivation to move.

So that’s how we recover. Increment by increment, we remember what helps us. We reach for help. We take little actions, like a walk in the park, a drive through the mountains, connecting with family and friends, and we journal. We find some things to be grateful for. We reach for inspiration. We implement some diligent help as soon as we have a little more movement and energy available. We accept ourselves where we are and look forward to feeling even better.

I totally forgot that I have a series of strategies called “When you forget.” So I will revisit those. I will keep religiously watching my subliminal tapes to really slingshot me back to the realms where I am more me. Here is a link to the subliminals that I purchased – no I don’t make a penny off them. I just find them really helpful right now when I needed some accelerating. www.subliminal-videos.com). I also am taking a new course called Silva Life System, and each one of these things is new to me and in depth and intense. This is part of my diligence to move me back to center while adding new skills and understanding.

So why did this happen? I have clues. I was trying to integrate all that I do with my understanding about shadow and the dark side of self. I was about to write a book about what to do in hard times, and having some doubts and questions. My greater self was very specific about now being the time to contribute what I know to the world, and I hesitated (part of my shadow). I was wondering how to integrate moving up and down on the emotional and vibrational scale with what I know already. So I got to live directly and specifically all the things I had been contemplating. Yes it was ouchy!

And in the end, I bet I will feel deep gratitude for this particular set of valleys and hills on my journey. For now, I am reaching for the small gratitudes. As I remember and focus on what I have, my energy shifts up vibrationally. I am going to do some more meditations, and see my shadow selves and my victim pattern being held compassionately by the Source that flows through me.

I am grateful for my tenacity and for my deep desire to feel good. I am grateful for all the experiences and knowledge that I have gained in a lifetime of moving towards my essential self and awakening to the greatness within each and every one of us. I am grateful that I have the time to reflect, study, integrate, grow, and then write and share this with others. I am so grateful that I had 7 wonderful months of flow, and looking forward to when I can keep that flow moving even longer. I am grateful that I know what to do to pull myself up out of the sloughs of despair. I am grateful that I have a body that works. I am grateful for the rich beauty of this incredible planet. I am grateful that there are communities to celebrate with who have similar beliefs. I am grateful for wonderful music and the incredible creativity that is within each of us. I am grateful for Esther Hick, her husband and their incredible work especially the emotional scale which I use when I get detoured like recently. I am grateful for Napoleon Hill, Abraham Lincoln, Maxwell Maltz, Roberto Assagioli, Carl Jung, Jacqueline Small, Georgia Okeefe, the minister this morning, and all those greats who have gone before us and left us wonderful messages about how to live our lives in stream of well-being.

I am grateful for the laws of the universe that support us and invite us to be our best. I am grateful that laws of success help us lean into that greatness.

Vision is necessary to operate the Law of Success. Vision and the Law of Success are linked. To move toward something, we need propulsion. When we have a dream we have something that we look toward. Dreams are very important first steps in operating the Law of Success. Dreams are often cut off at the knees because we are afraid to have the dream because we don’t always believe they can come true. So we need to nurture and care take our dreams because they are the embryos of our future success.

When our Dream becomes a pulsating Desire, we put more fuel on our train moving toward success. Hicks talks about rockets of desire shooting out of us. We want something very badly. Hill named Burning Desire as his first step toward utilizing the Law of Success. Sometimes that Burning Desire can completely overcome any doubt we have about obtaining our Desire like Debra did with Mrs. Field’s cookies. When we place our wholehearted self behind an endeavor, we can move mountains. I’m reminded of the story of a leader who wanted to give his army a burning desire to win, so he burned all the ships in which they arrived, and to guarantee their success said – “to get home, you are going to have to win the battle.”

When things are dire in our lives, we have to pull everything we have together and rally every resource we have to get through those times to success. When our financial lives are on the line, we have to give it our all. And that is the gift. Those times call from us our absolute best and beyond. Because to fail is not an option in our path to success. We may rail at God or the Universe, and we may fret and fume at times. Unless we want to give up, there is no other option except to go forward and to find some solution that we haven’t found before that will happen as we utilize the law of success. We are forced to go beyond our comfort zones. We are forced to look at our beliefs to see what is holding us back. Sometimes we are pushed to the absolute limit, and realize that we cannot do it alone and we need help. That may be when we surrender our course to the Divine, and prayer becomes our engine. From there we lift out of survival and begin to contemplate purpose and vision. We certainly have go power toward success while we are fighting for survival. Sometimes the energy of stress and anxiety can fuel go power for movement toward success.

But when you want to move onto thriving, you need another kind of go power to drive us toward success. You may have been moving up the emotional scale from misery, to stress and anxiety, and finally move into changing your approach to the world by the use of positivity and optimism. You’ve moved out of survival, worry, revenge, into the higher vibrations of boredom, contentment, hope, and optimism and even positive expectancy. Those are wonderful feeling states, and certainly you have moved into higher vibrations which are critical to applying the law of success. But where is the go power in this range? To be happy is a powerful use of the law of success and the law of attraction, but if you are looking for a specific result – particularly a monetary result, then vision is critical. It is your propulsion power in these upper regions of the vibratory scale.

Along the way up the scale, you have learned to trust the Universe, learned to trust your intuition, and learned to pay attention to signs and synchronicities. This happens as you flow with the law of success. You have learned to believe in possibilities and turn them into positive expectancy. Now your vision can become your rudder and the winds of the Universe fill your sail. You can go anywhere. You can accomplish anything for you have the law of success at your back.

Your vision creates compelling movement forward. It may be to have a sense of fulfillment, to give back to the world, to make a contribution in some way. Now your vision upgrades itself to including you, others, and the world in a vast interconnected way. Masterminding is one of the keys in law of success. It invites you to sit at the table with the greats.

A book just jumped off the bookshelf and said read me. When I opened it I saw this quote from Buckminster Fuller “The purpose of our lives is to add value to the people of this generation and those that follow.”

T. Harv Eker said “But hear this: Your life is not just about you. It’s also about contributing to others. It’s about living true to your mission and reason for being here on this earth at this time. It’s about adding your piece of the puzzle to the world. Most people are so stuck in their egos that everything revolves around me, me, and more me. But if you want to be rich in the truest sense of the word, it can’t only be about you. It has to include adding value to other people’s lives.”

Vision expands your perspective, your world view. It grows to include your mission. This vision knows you have a mission. Every one on the planet has their own mission. Eker went on to say. “We each came to this earth with natural talents, things we’re just naturally good at. These gifts were given to you for a reason: to use and share with others. Research shows the happiest people are those who use their natural talents to the utmost. Part of your mission in life then must be to share your gifts and value with as many people as possible. That means being willing to play big” (from Secrets of the Millionaire Mind).

Your vision, mission, purpose, or calling, is your soul speaking to you and saying “Let us be the best we can be. Let us call forth our greatness and make the most of this life.” Your vision is a continuing call to action. The Law of Success responds to that mission and that purpose saying “There is a need for your specific gifts and talents on this earth. Call them forth. Life needs you.”

In this last link go read what George Bernard Shaw said about Life. It is a delicious cry to Life and Vision and Purpose.

What do we need to do when we are in real trouble? Very recently a reader wrote me “I am fighting to save everything I have and need real help.” I wrote a long letter in reply, and decided there are others who are facing similar feelings. Many of us face a crisis in our life at one time or another. Having walked this path myself I know a lot. Here’s what I want to tell you.

Nothing is Impossible. No matter what the economy, no matter what the times seem to imply, miracles can happen. Appearances are also very deceiving. An absolute not to miss article is called Appearances Are Deceiving. While you may not be able to change the outside world, you certainly can change the inside world, and how you respond to events.

Having been through tight spots myself, and having lost my home through foreclosure, I know what a challenge it is. Amazing things can come out of adversity, however, unexpected gifts and outcomes. When you are in a “fight to save everything” chances are that you are in scarcity and lots of worry. Being in the state of mind of scarcity and worry brings more of the same. It cannot be otherwise. Survival and Contraction is an article that might help.

So here’s what I recommend, or what I did. I did everything I could to keep myself inspired to trust and have faith. I listened to inspiring tapes. I read uplifting books. I practiced imagery like mad. I knew that I could not afford my home and so I fixed it up and put it on the market. I imagined someone coming who could pay cash for my home. I imagined seeing my home for sale. My daughter and I would do our 17 second exercises together.

And I put everything I could into improving the appearance of my home with curb appeal, staging the home inside, and repairing anything that was broken.

When others talked to me about the condition of the housing market, quickly changed the subject, and talked to myself internally saying “Nothing is impossible. There is someone who wants to buy this particular home and they will appear soon.”

Was it easy? No. Did I cry occasionally? Yes. Did I persist? Yes! Here are the facts. The future will happen whether I want it or not. I can however have a huge impact on that future by how I am conducting myself today. I can help change what future occurs, and I can definitely change how I feel today going through difficulty.

I reached for inspiration and hope, no matter what appearances looked like. I practiced seeing my future the way I wanted it to turn out. Simultaneously I used everything I knew about selling a home to make that home saleable. And I continued that process through the 8 months that it was on the market. I did not listen to naysayers. I enlisted my family’s participation in both the outer work and the inner work.

I put everything thing I had into building a state of mind that moved me out of feeling like a victim, and feeling the real pinch of scarcity into a different state. I really practiced moving my attention from worry to deep breathing, and remembering who the true Source is.

I didn’t tell my friends about the foreclosure - part of that was shame, but part of it was that I didn’t know how to talk with them in such a way that I wouldn’t radiate victim and rehash a focus on “ain’t it awful.” I didn’t want to tell the story of “What a fix I am in.” I think it really helped not to focus on how difficult it was, but instead put my energy on “I am so glad that things will be getting better soon.” Make sure that you observe “the story” you are telling yourself about your life, and what you are saying to others about this time. I highly recommend that you look at the article: Tell a New Story.

I did the process of 17 seconds many many times during that stretch, and when I was in despair, I prayed. I also taught myself to Look for Signs that the Universe was supporting us.

And I persisted no matter what, at continuing to work on my state of Being. Almost everything on this website is the result of what I learned walking through a great time of difficulty.

Positive thought is important in that it raises your vibration where you can utilize the laws of success and laws of attraction. For that reason, it is essential. Optimism can be learned.

No matter what the economic times, there are people who thrive financially. There’s an article on the site about choosing not to pay attention to economic forecasts, and really paying attention to what you would like to create, Focus and the Law of Success.

Those two years was perhaps one of the most challenging of my life, and yet, I was able to live through it with hope and a degree of happiness. I did sell my home before I was evicted, and was able to reclaim the property and pay it off. Then I started a wonderful adventure which was my reward for making it through. It was also my strategy to give myself time to renew and repurpose my life. Things worked out far better than my best imagination.

When we have a lot of momentum built up over time that results in circumstances that become dire, it takes some time to turn that energy momentum around. That is the time when you have to persist the most. And really ask powerful questions of yourself. What is it I need to learn? How can I have more gratitude? What more can I appreciate about what I have now?

As I repaired my home, I had to learn to value my work, and value my energy, and really soak in appreciation for what I did accomplish, rather than look at all there was yet to do. I literally had to relearn how to live in such a way that would not perpetuate more scarcity.

Success really is an inside job. It is easy to forget. I wrote a summary blog about things that you can do when you occasionally lag or forget. called Success Strategies and when you forget at

In that article are lots of resources you can use. Especially
When You Forget
Survival and Contraction

The thing about dire circumstances is that the consequences are so high, that we are compelled to bring all of our resources to bear to solve the issues. And that is an immense gift we give ourselves. It was comfortable in my home, I didn’t have to push outside my comfort zone. When I finally was pushed to make the decision. I chose to sell, and that opened more possibilities for a fuller more joyous life that I ever dreamed was possible. You are reaping a part of the result of that decision, because I have had the time to write this blog.

I walked through my crises and now see it truly was an amazing opportunity. You too can walk through yours. Look for the signs of support, and look for the gifts that are coming now and will come from this time. You will have far more strength, focus, courage, faith, and power for having this time.

Setting a Daily Intention

Setting a Daily Intention is a practice that I have recently taken up. I read the book Choose Brilliant Health and it has become one of my top ten books. Rick Foster and Gregg Hicks look at the mental steps that people who have had health challenges take to become healthier. They describe three kinds of intentions; Daily, Moment to Moment and Core Intentions. Setting my Daily Intention is becoming one of my most favorite practices.

When I wake in the morning, before I open my eyes, I reflect upon the day, and review what I know I will do. I go into a quiet state – somewhat meditative, contemplative, and somewhat imaginative. I bring all those qualities into a focus and say to myself. “Today I intend to carry a feeling of well-being and joy. Today it is my intention to meet my son for lunch and be as present and heart-centered as I can. Today, I intend to carry happiness with me. Today, I intend to have something wonderful and unexpected enhance my experience. Today I intend to see signs of Synchronicity and Source operating in my life. Today I intend to savor every moment. Today I intend that packing and traveling will go easily and effortlessly.”

This morning I woke from a dream where I was getting a review from some friends, and they were so complimentary, but Douglas (who has already passed on) said to me. “I disagree. I don’t think you are meditating enough and you are not allowing enough of your genius to come through you.”

So it is my intent to now add to me daily practice these words “Today I intend to meditate. I intend to allow my genius to emerge into my life.”

While in that state, I see myself doing what I am saying. I imagine my day, if you will, before it happens. I recently traveled to Minneapolis, and had some concerns about meetings that I would have there. So I imagined my day and set my intention to have positive outcomes for these meetings.

Every day that I did this Daily Intention Practice, I felt as though I had a special cushion of energy that supported me throughout the day. And the days were spectacularly successful. When I forgot to do this practice in the morning, I would rapidly find out, because the day was not filled with ease. When I remember early in the day, I just stop, and take the time right then and there to do my Daily Intention for the rest of the day.

In each session of the Daily Intention Practice, I make it specific for that particular day. I remember the different things I will be doing, and I make a specific intention for each one of them. Sometimes I make it like a prayer, or add in a prayer for specific people. What I know to be true is that my life is more blessed when I used this Daily Intention Practice. I intend for certain qualities to accompany me through the day. That may be self-compassion, connection and caring; self-confidence, success, tenderness, clear-sightedness or whatever I feel is called for in the situations that I may face. This practice has become my version of the Prosperity Secret Create Your Day. I urge you to try it, if only for a minute or two. You are giving yourself the suggestion of how you are intending to create your day and your life. And the Universe cooperates.

Burning Desire is an absolute must in order for your desire to come into existence. Napoleon Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich right after the Great Depression. He said that the Depression taught us humility, and open-mindedness and opened lots of OPPORTUNITIES. His words are just as true today. What we are experiencing world wide is giving all of us the opportunity to really revisit our burning desires, because now is a time when those desire and dreams can come true. Perhaps not, however, in the old way.

Burning Desire is the first step in the process of Think and Grow Rich. He said that Dreams are the seedlings of your future. Desires have been given negative connotation by our culture, referring to lust, or saying that your desires are never a necessity. Balderdash! Your desires come from the deepest place in yourself . The desires for which you feel a real passion are coming from the self in you that needs to be expressed as Life flowing through you.

Be practical, be realistic, don’t dream. That’s a surefire recipe for failure to live to your fullest. I have found that our dreams are fragile, and that many people have wrapped away their dreams in such cocoons, that they can’t even remember them. This contracts you as a person into a smaller and smaller person.

It may be that you have to take a while to recover your dreams. Read Recognize and Accept Your Dreams for some ways to revisit and recover those dreams. Although not on the list, treasure maps are another possibility. New Year for me is a time when I make a giant poster of my desires, goals, aims for the coming year. I go through magazines, and clip out words, headlines, and beautiful graphics and photos that I may include. This year I made one, and then I needed to make a second treasure map, because I had an epiphany at the end of the year. I had been feeling down, not very energetic, and just the tiniest bit of a victim, and even though I worked very hard, and moved twice last fall, I was really hard on myself. My epiphany came while I sat in the dentist office, waiting for the removal of the last three ‘silver’ (read mercury) fillings. September through December I had over 16 fillings removed and replaced with enamel. The mercury was running havoc on my body.

As I waited to be called into the dentist’s office, I read about the process. There in black and white, were the words that while the fillings are being removed, mercury contamination might be felt more strongly. What if the depression, the energyless state I had been in, the physical feeling bad was not emotional at all, but simply a by-product of having all those fillings removed? My critic had been hard at me.

So I vowed then and there that this year I would work on Self Love, Self Acceptance, and Self Confidence. So another treasure map was created with beautiful pictures, and wonderful words “I love myself.” “Life is Good and getting Better.” By the time I finished creating my map, I had a burning desire to treat myself with the kindness and consideration that I would afford a friend.

What a powerful year it has been. This whole year has been full of gifts, insights, and processes that are helping me exactly to move toward the achievement of that burning desire. Not all of them are pleasant, but the contrast between what I desired and what I was experiencing helped fuel the intensity of the burning desire even more. Contrast is a marvelous experience to compel our desires to emerge.

For the longest time as I read and reread Napoleon Hill, I didn’t know what my desires were, and for sure they did not feel like burning desires.

If you can conceive of a desire, wish for it, dream of it, and then it truly can come true for you. The laws of the universe decree it so.

Success Stories

Success stories of others inspire us on to our own success. We need to know that others have created success stories of their own. Success stories teach us about some of the success factors that are integral to everyone’s success stories. Many of us do not have the ability to imagine ourselves in our own success stories, because we think we are too old, too young, too poor, uneducated, too many difficult circumstances, or some other reason. When we read others’ success stories, it helps us to believe in the possibility of our own success and the creation of our own success stories.

Some of the success stories that follow are about people who had their own adversities to overcome to become success stories. They did overcome them. You can too.

Col. Harlan Sanders retired and received his first social security check when he was 65. That check was $90.00. He looked at that check and said “I am not going to live like this.” He decided to start a restaurant chain based on his wife’s recipe for frying chicken. No matter what age you are, if he can start a restaurant at 65, you can create your own success story. KFC’s success stories let us know that age is not a factor. Mrs. Field’s Cookies – another powerful success story – was created by a young woman who was only 20 years old. These are wonderful success stories that say age need not be an adverse factor. Persistence and motivation are keys in these success stories.

Bankruptcy hasn’t stopped success. Walt Disney and Sam Walton’s success stories show that both experienced bankruptcy. Walt Disney went around showing his drawings of a mouse to potential investors, bankers, and friends and went bankrupt while he was doing it. But he persisted, and eventually Disneyland and the Walt Disney Corporation came to existence. Sam Walton was also a dreamer whose dream of a national chain of variety stores propelled him his whole life. His first store went bankrupt. His second store went bankrupt. He persisted, and today Wal-Mart is one of the world‘s biggest stores.
Walt Disney and Sam Walton demonstrate with their success stories, that you can overcome bad credit and financial failure and still make your dream come true. Dreams are key success factors in these success stories.

A 33-year old truck driver named Larry Walters wanted to fly, but had no education or money. Determination is key success factor to the next two success stories. Grabbing a pellet gun, and a six pack of beer, he tied 42 weather balloons to his lawn chair and began to rise into the air. His neighbors watched him rise to 16,000 feet in the air. When he was ready, he shot out one balloon at a time and slowly descended to a safe landing. Rose Blumkin was Russian born and came to the US in 1917. She went on to work very hard and owned and operated a $180 million carpet company. When she was 90 she sold her company to her family in a contract to allow her to stay on and help run the business. She had a disagreement with her grandson, and quit to start another carpet business. I never signed a non-compete agreement she said as she walked out the door. Five years later she celebrated her 100th birthday, running around in a wheelchair, operating her $5 million carpet business. These unusual success stories tell us that you can do it too. Gumption and belief in one’s self are keys in these success stories.

Success story is what we want for ourselves. The success story can illuminate our way to success. Success stories inspire us. Success stories teach us. Hope is given by success stories. Success stories stir our enthusiasm. Success stories tell us about the realization of the desires, dreams and imaginations of others who go before us. Success stories help us believe that we too can be a success. Success stories are used to illustrate the secrets of success. Success stories show us the success factors of others.

Ten success factors dominate each success story that follows.

The success story of Debbie goes like this. As a 20-year-old she had a dream to start a restaurant that sold only cookies. No ordinary banker would give her funding because she had no money, experience, education, nothing to indicate that she could become a success story. Every banker turned her down. She kept up hope because anyone who sampled her cookies ate every bite. Her success story continued on because of persistence. Finally one person believed in her dream and helped set up her first store. She set high standards of only the best ingredients and keeping cookies on the shelf for less than two hours. The cookie store became a success and took off. Mrs. Fields Cookies are sold world wide now. The success story of Debbie shows the power of a Dream.

The success story of Edwin C. Barnes illustrates how his dream of being a business associate of the great inventor Thomas Edison was the consuming desire of his life. He grew his dream past hope. He did not know Thomas Edison, nor did he have the money to get a ticket to travel to see him. Leaving behind everything, he traveled on a freight car, and stood before Edison the first time looking like a tramp. Mr. Edison gave him some menial work because Edwin Barnes conveyed the impression that he was determined to get what he had come after. He remained ready. His success story continued on because of persistence. An opportunity arose in an unsuspected way. A queer looking machine the Edison Dictating Machine made all Edison’s salespeople reluctant. Barnes knew he could sell the newly invented machine, and he did. He was so successful that Edison gave him a contract to distribute and market the machine nationally. The success story of Edwin Barnes demonstrates Napoleon Hill’s first success principle – Burning Desire. The success story of Edwin Barnes illustrates the dream that became a burning desire.

Mahatma Gandhi shows the power of Faith in the success story of the century. Gandhi had no money, no home, no orthodox tools of power such as armies, ships, armaments, yet he wielded immense power. That Power? “HE CREATED IT OUT OF HIS UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRINCIPLE OF FAITH AND THROUGH HIS ABILITY TO TRANSPLANT THAT FAITH INTO THE MINDS OF TWO HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE.” stated Napoleon Hill. He coalesced that many people to move in unison. That is the success story of the power of FAITH. The success story of Gandhi shows a big dream that became a burning desire that was funded by Faith.

The success story of one of the most respected horse riding coaches in America follows. Before coaching the USA equestrian Olympic team in 2000, Jane Savoie was competing at screening trial with a new horse that was young, did not have the strength to do what was necessary and they had not practiced enough to build a relationship and strong communications, but Zapetero was a top horse. She couldn’t imagine a perfect test because of these limits, so instead she focused her Imagination by visualizing the awards ceremony, seeing herself riding Zapetoro in the victory lap. Her success story continued on because of Imagination. “Mentally zeroing in on our desired results as if they were already in existence was a significant factor in our success. It was important to focus on a positive outcome as a foregone conclusion rather than allow my rather vivid imagination to conjure up failure pictures. My mind could then supply the means to achieve my goal by helping me to ride skillfully and effectively.” She and Zapetero led the lap of honor when the results were in. The success story of Jane shows how Auto-suggestion is powerful. The secret of the success story of Jane is that her dream of being a riding champion was a life-long burning desire, funded by faith in herself, and amped up by powerful uses of imaging and auto-suggestion.

“Following his childhood dream of drawing comic strips, a young man was advised by an editor in Kansas City to give up drawing. He kept knocking on doors, only to be rejected. Finally a church hired him to draw publicity material. Working out of an old garage, he befriended a mouse who ultimately became famous. The man was Walt Disney, his dream was Disney World, and his friend was Mickey Mouse.” This is the success story told by Walt Disney. He imagined a place where families could have fun together. Along the way he drew his friend Mickey to cartoon success. His success story continued on because of persistence. Many people have played in the success story of Disney World and Disney Land. Imagination is a key factor in the success story of Walt Disney. We can all see the power of Disney’s dream that was a burning desire funded by Faith, illustrated through Imagination that it could happen.

The success story of Henry a grocer during the depression shows how Specialized Knowledge helps success. Finding himself with no job, he took some accounting coursework to augment bookkeeping experience he already had and went into business for himself. He did contract bookkeeping for over 100 small merchants, including the grocer that he had previously worked for. His success story continued on because of persistence. He set up modern bookkeeping equipment in a light truck and was so successful that he had a whole fleet of these portable offices to service his customers. He found himself paying 10 times more in taxes than he formerly was paid as an employee. Adversity gave this man opportunity to launch the success story of his life. He took a dream combined it with faith in himself, persistence, and added specialized knowledge to become the success story of his life.

Along the success story route, Organized Planning is essential. While Dr. Frank Gunsaulus was going through college, what he observed gave him the burning desire to become the directing head of a college where people would learn by doing. He began to plan a new college that did not use orthodox methods. He calculated how much it would cost to start. He got bogged down for two years trying for figure out how to get the money. One Saturday afternoon, he was thinking those same thoughts, and made the Decision it was time to act. He decided he was going to get the million dollars he needed in a week. The next day, he let the papers know that he would be preaching on the topic “What I would do if I had a million dollars.” Then he began writing the speech – which was easy because he had been planning it for more than two years. He slept with a deep sense of confidence. The morning arrived, and he knelt and asked that this sermon touch someone who could contribute the money. When he arrived in the pulpit, he discovered his speech had been left at home, and so he opened his heart and spoke from his soul imagining himself talking both to the audience and to God. He told all the details of his educational dream, and the plan he had for helping people learn practical things while they were also developing their mind. When he finished, Philip D. Armour arose from the back and walked forward extended his hand and said I believe in you and believe you can do everything you said you would. Come to my office tomorrow, and I will give you the million dollars. The success story of Dr, Gunsaulus is an example of Organized Planning. This success story shows how a decision can compel success. The success story of this young preacher shows how his dream turned burning desire coupled with his imagination allowed him to manifest one million dollars within 36 hours of his decision to act. His faith in a supreme power along with confidence in himself fueled the success story to completion.

W.C. Fields found himself out of work and money in the depression. His way of making a living in vaudeville no longer existed. Plus he was past 60. He volunteered to work for free in a new field called movies because he was so eager to make a comeback which did happen. Persistence was a key factor in the success story of his life. Persistence is evident in the success story of Fannie Hurst who came to New York in 1915 to make fortune writing. The Saturday Evening Post sent her 36 rejections before it became interested in one of her stories. She pounded the sidewalks of New York for four years before getting her break. And then when money came, it came in a flood. The success story of both of these artists shows dreams funded by faith and persistence.

“When two or more people coordinate in a spirit of HARMONY, and work toward a definite objective they place themselves in a position, through that alliance to absorb power directly from the great universal storehouse of Infinite Intelligence” said Napoleon Hill as he describes the success story of Henry Ford. Ford overcame illiteracy, poverty and as he allied himself with Thomas Edison and other great people, he rapidly achieved the success story of his life. The success story of Andrew Carnegie also shows the use of Masterminding.

The success story of Mrs. Fields Cookies, the success story of Walt Disney and the success story of Edwin Barnes illustrates the power of your Dream. The success story of Edwin Barnes and the success story of Gandhi show Burning Desire. Faith is a strong component of the success story of Dr. Gunsaulus and the success story of Edwin Barnes and the success story of Gandhi. The very active step of Imagination and Auto-Suggestion are vital to the success story of Jane Savoi, the success story of Walt Disney, and the success story of Jack Nickolsen the golfer. When these success factors are in place, then Decisions, Organized Planning, and Specialized Training are the practical steps to be taken, as in the success story of Henry the grocer, and the success story of Dr. Gunsaulus and Henry Ford. Persistence – keeping on keeping on – is essential to any success story, and particularly evident in the success story of Thomas Edison, who tried 10,000 ways before he was successful with the filament in the light bulb. None of us are successful in a vacuum. We need contact with Infinite Intelligence and with a group of like minded people. Masterminding was essential for the success story of Andrew Carnegie, the success story of Henry Ford and Napoleon Hill used an imaginary group of wisdom leaders to propel his own success story.

What is your success story? What are your success stories? The success you have achieved probably contained some of the factors highlighted in these success stories. Success stories repeatedly illuminate the characteristics necessary for success. A success story usually begins with a dream. The success story usually shows that dream becoming a burning desire. Faith mixed with the burning desire fuels the success story. Imagination combined with auto-suggestion moves around the conscious mind to activate the subconscious into the success story. Persistence, Specialized Knowledge, Organized Planning, and Decisions provide the tools for the success story. Master Minding gives a quantum leap to success stories. Each of these 10 success factors presented by Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich are illustrated by the success stories above. You will find these common themes in the success story of most anyone. Now return to other places on this website to learn the success story of other people, and how to develop these qualities in you.

Laws of success written by Napoleon Hill identifies 13 steps to Riches in his book Think and Grow Rich. Andrew Carnegie and Henry Ford were master of the laws of success secret that Napoleon Hill mentions in each chapter as well as the introduction. Napoleon Hill thought that if he just spoke the secret, that we the reader wouldn’t value it as much as we would if we had to decipher it. You can only decipher the laws of success if you have the unabridged copy because the originals editors of Think and Grow Rich chose to edit out over a hundred pages of material. They thought the everyday person would not accept the book unless it was edited. The laws of success resound through those missing passages.

Jerry Hicks found the laws of success written about by Napoleon Hill to be very significant. He spent years teaching people Hill’s work. Later he coauthored “Ask and It Is Given, “Money and the Law of Attraction” and other works. The Laws of Success and the Law of Attraction utilize the same principles.

Wallace Wattles wrote The Science of Getting Rich in 1910. He utilizes the same concepts of vibration, visualization, ethers, and state of mind, as do Laws of Success and the law of Attraction. He practiced the science of visualization by forming a mental or visual picture of what he wanted and then working toward it. He was using the laws of success and the law of attraction.

The power of the laws of success is stated clearly in the 13 steps to riches that Napoleon Hill identifies. His opening paragraph in Chapter 1 says “Truly, “thoughts are things,” and powerful things at that when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a BURNING DESIRE for their translation into riches, or other material objects.” Knowing how important thoughts are is a significant part of the laws of success. Having a burning desire is a part of the laws of success. Having the ability to dream, and to imagine are part of the laws of success.

Here are the 13 steps to riches listed in Think and Grow Rich. Each chapter lists portions of what are the laws of success.

Desire (The first step to Riches)
Faith (The second Step to Riches)
Auto-Suggestion (The Third Step to Riches)
Specialized Knowledge (The Fourth Step to Riches)
Imagination (The Fifth Step to Riches). This is critical to laws of success.
Organized Planning (The Sixth Step to Riches)
Decision (The Seventh Step to Riches
Persistence (The Eighth Step to Riches)
Power of the Master Mind (The Ninth Step to Riches)
The Mystery of Sex Transmutation (The tenth step to Riches)
The Subconscious Mind (The Eleventh step to Riches)
The Brain (The Twelfth Step to Riches)
The Sixth Sense (The Thirteen Six Ghosts of Fear (Clearing the Brain for Riches)

Napoleon Hill was trying to describe as clearly as he could what the laws of success were. He wrote in 1937 trying to help us understand the power of thought, mind, visualization, and state of mind so that we too could access the laws of success. Listen to his first words in the Second Step to Riches. “Faith is the head chemist of the mind. When FAITH is blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and transmits it to Infinite Intelligence, as in the case of prayer.” Clarity of vision and vibration are essential to laws of success.

“ALL THOUGHTS WHICH HAVE BEEN EMOTIONALIZED (given feeling) AND MIXED WITH FAITH, begin immediately to translate themselves into their physical equivalent or counterpart.” Wallace and Hill are saying the same thing here. Thoughts can turn into physical things. Both try to explain in their books the how of the laws of success.

Have a burning desire; hold that image long enough with clarity, and right-mindedness, and what you desire will be drawn to you is the essence of part of the laws of success, manifested out of the ethers as it were. But it is not a magic. It is a process and a way of being. I think it would be helpful for me to review these 13 steps to riches, and I thought we could review these laws of success together. If you have not already purchased your own unabridged version of Think and Grow Rich, then here is a place where you can obtain your own copy. I highly recommend reading and rereading this text. You will miss the laws of success unless you read the unabridged version available by clicking here. (No I don’t make money on the referral).

You can read the following articles to see what has already been said here regarding the laws of success. Vibration and the Law of Success. Faith and the Law of Success. Subconscious and the Law of Success. State of Mind and the Law of Success.
