Positivity a secret of success

Positivity is a powerful secret of success. 

 

People with a millionaire mindset have developed certain qualities of themselves that helps them succeed.  Self –Confidence, the ability to Choose and Act, Perception of Possibilities, Hope, Optimism, the ability to Cooperate with others, Persistence, Perseverance, the ability to deal with adversity, Creativity, Imagination, Intuition,  and Listening to their inner compass are just some of these qualities. 

 

Napoleon Hill identifies many of these characteristics in his Law of Success.  What’s important is to know that these qualities can be developed and expanded by each of us continuously our whole lives. 

 

Positive Psychology has documented this by research during the last decade. Barbara Fredrickson PhD. from University of North Carolina has done groundbreaking research on what she calls Positivity (2009).  Negativity is familiar to all of us.  Self talk that is negative, criticism, shame, guilt and hopelessness has probably been experienced by many people.  Negativity and survival oriented feelings and thinking make us shrink and contract.  Positivity is tapping into our own wellspring of strength which helps us to expand, get more creative, hopeful, see possibilities, cope with adversity, see more solutions, and become more open when faced with problems.  Positivity broadens our outlook, allowing thoughts and actions to surface, where we can envision win-win solutions, and we can build lasting relationships.  It expands your world view – you have broader physical vision, your awareness expands and blooms, you can see the big picture, when you can’t while mired in negativity.

Strengths and Success

Strengths and Success
are related. How much do you know about your personal strengths, your individuality? How much do you cherish those strengths? Strength and Positive Psychology are oriented towards what you do right. In order to experience success, knowledge and appreciation of your strengths are vital.

We live in a negative society. Our parents often want us to “fit in” while we are growing up; schools want to deliver their core curricula, not nurturing our passions and uniqueness. When we go to work we are hired and then often need to change ourselves to fit the job, and are evaluated upon the areas that need to be improved. This fixation upon our weaknesses undermines our productivity, contributes to illnesses. To be successful, we need to focus on our strengths.

Positives are very necessary to our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Being positive can increase your life by ten years. Being negative have make you ill and kill you. Positiveness increases your success. Negativity undermines your success. Positives build your self confidence.

How do you play to your strength? Identify your strengths is step one. Acknowledge your strengths is step two. Remind yourself of your strengths often; step three. Develop you strengths and use them more fully helps you flourish and be successful. If you are asked to speak to your five greatest weaknesses and your five greatest strengths, which could you do the fastest? I’m betting that you can easily identify your weaknesses.

Your mission today is to identify five personal strengths. Embrace them as part of your path to success. They are yours. Everyone needs at least five positive interactions for every negative interaction. That is the magic ratio. So it is up to you to begin making a list of your personal strengths. You need to add to it each day, and you need to remind yourself each evening of where you used your strengths during the day. As you value and appreciate your strengths, your success will increase. As you increase your awareness of your personal strengths, others will notice your success.

Law of Success in spite of Worry and Fear has been applied by successful people and by millionaires. The successful people of the world who use the law of success still feel fear and worry. Entrepreneurs who become successful millionaires still feel fear and worry. They just learn to coach themselves differently than others who succumb to fear and doubt. People who are wealthy use coaching self as part of their implementation of the law of success. They deal with worry and fear with several law of success tools. Coaching themselves with self talk and visualization through worry and fear enhances their self confidence.

They use self talk to remind themselves that they are usually successful. This helps them tap into past self confidence. They remind themselves that things always work out for them. They remember times in the past when they were worried, but persevered, and went onto success. Self Talk is an essential tool of people who are self confident. Self Confidence is an attribute of the successful, and the prosperous who utilize the law of success. Self Talk, a form of visualization, is an essential tool to eradicate fear and worry.

Another tool that successful, wealthy, and self confident people use is visualization. Visualization plays an important role in the law of success. These folks run visualizations in their minds seeing themselves carrying out their goals and being successful. Mental rehearsal is the term used in the study of peak performers, who do the exact same thing. Mental rehearsal enhances self confidence. Mental rehearsal enhances performance. Studies have shown that those people who do a mental rehearsal before they conduct a meeting, a telephone call, a project, come closer to the outcome they want than those who do not use visualization or mental rehearsal. Folks who use the law of success use visualization and self talk to combat worry and fear.

Visualization, self talk, mental rehearsals, self confidence and coaching self of past successes are all important facets in using the law of success and combating worry, doubt and fear. .

“Success, Optimism and Self Confidence”

Success, optimism and self confidence
are tied together tightly. Increase one of these three and the other two will also increase. A couple of days ago, while visiting my brother, my car wouldn’t start. I had just bought new batteries while visiting Texas. My first thought was “I must have left on a light inside the car while I was packing it the day before.” I didn’t even look under the hood. I just went looking for the jumper cables.

My brother opened the hood and said “Here’s your problem. The cable was loose on the battery post. The whole experience was great learning. I’m writing about learning optimism, and got to see first hand what my first thoughts were. My self confidence got boosted, and I felt successful as I reflected on my thought pattern.

I did realize it was only temporary. I could jump my car. I contained the issue to just those few minutes and future trips. While I assumed I contributed to this situation, I didn’t beat myself up with negative self talk. It was all over and done with in five minutes. That is very different than how it would have been five years ago. It was an opportunity to evaluate my own thoughts for optimism, self confidence and success.

How do you feel and what do you think when you someone says “well done?” What goes through your mind when you’ve bought a new couch, gotten a promotion, or when your beloved says “I love you?” Do you feel self confidence, optimism and success or do you wonder when the other shoe will drop.

People who are successful have self confidence. They believe in themselves. They have optimism. They talk to themselves positively.

In Optimists’ Success Secrets, we looked at the thinking patterns of optimism and pessimism. These thinking patterns were outlined by researchers who were working with school children to see if optimism is learnable. Trainers worked with children who were depressed, low self confidence and little success in school for twelve weeks.

They taught the children to not blame themselves, to realize that feelings are temporary, and to contain their thinking about one problem to just one small area of their life. The children learned success, optimism and self confidence. When tested two years later, these same children had retained what they learned and were able to problem solve because they had learned a different way to think using the four cornerstones to optimism, self confidence, and success..

If you change the way you talk to yourself (and to others) you can change how you feel and act. You will have more success, optimism and self confidence. So let‘s take an example. This morning you found that your car won’t start. What do you think?

If you immediately think you must have left on a light in the car and therefore are at fault, you lose problem-solving capabilities. What if the problem is a loose battery connection? Let’s look at a few thoughts to use instead that will help build self confidence, enhance optimism and success.

In the beginning you might have to re route old thinking by making statements around the three things that optimists do. People who have optimism, success and self confidence talk to themselves that:

    1. The problem is outside of self. This is a situation.
    2. It is temporary. It does not predict the future.
    3. The problem does not affect every part of my life.

Self talk (what you think to yourself) has a huge impact on your optimism and self confidence. For more optimism, you could successfully think:

    “This is a situation. It is outside me.”
    “My car is not starting NOW. This is not permanent. It is temporary”
    “My whole life does not revolve around my car starting now.”
    “I probably am not going to lose my job because my car isn’t starting.
    “Now I can begin to figure out what to do next.”

A pessimistic pattern weakens your self confidence and undermines optimism and success. When you are not thinking the thought patterns of pessimists, you have more mind capacity to use. You are not focused inside on who is at fault or asking why this always happens. This frees up energy to figure out what to do. You might be able to think something like:

    “I can focus on fixing the problem.
    “I wonder what’s causing this car not to start.
    “Who could help me this morning?”
    “What do I need to do about getting to work?
    “Who can I call at work to let them know I might be late?

To review, success optimism and self confidence are intertwined. The more optimism you generate, the more self confidence you feel. The more self confidence you have, the more success you will have. For quotes on positive attitude go here.

Here are THE FOUR CORNERSTONES of the thought patterns for optimism, self confidence and success.


HAVE NO FAULT THOUGHTS

If your thoughts are consumed with who is at fault – either yourself or someone else, your creativeness is gobbled up with feelings that result from fault finding. When you reframe the negative event as “just a situation that is temporary” your mind is freed up to look for solutions. If you constantly are thinking that it is your fault, it undermines your self confidence. If you look for someone else who is at fault, again your mind is tied up by emotions that will not support optimism, self confidence and therefore success.

From a law of attraction perspective, if you focus on the negative things, you draw more negative things to yourself. Once I get on a roll of a series of what I see as negative thoughts, I can guarantee that perhaps even within the hour, more negative events will occur. It happens very quickly. I laugh at it now and try to see how soon I can switch out of those thoughts, because I don’t want any more “car issues” for example. Since I prefer “positive events; the law of attraction is great motivation to have better self confidence, more optimism, and reap success.

IDENTIFY IT AS A SITUATION. In work environments it is much more helpful to look for a problem with the system, than look for the problem with a person. Your employees will be far more productive, more self confidence and be more successful, if you are looking at the issues, not the people. You’ll feel better too. It just off loads some of the emotions that gunk up our thinking works.


THIS WILL PASS. IT IS TEMPORARY
. This situation does not predict the future. To have optimism, success, and self confidence, I need to contain the problem to now.


THIS IS ONLY A SMALL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE.
Any issue is only a small slice of the whole pie. To have optimism, success, and self confidence, I need to contain the problem to a small area of my life.

Write these four cornerstones of optimism, self confidence and success thinking on a 3 x 5 card and carry it with you. When an event is happening in your life and it doesn’t feel good, remind yourself:

    HAVE NO FAULT THOUGHTS
    IDENTIFY IT AS A SITUATION
    THIS WILL PASS
    THIS IS ONLY A SMALL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE

This will give you enough perspective to reframe your thoughts. If you can do this for just thirty days, you will find you have more optimism, self confidence and success.

Transformation is happening

“Keep these pearls coming at a faster pace,” someone wrote on my Journeying through the Gap post. I agree with the reader. I wished I had written more to all of you during this last year. I waded through a long, large gap. You can see it in my posts this last year if you look hard. But the breakthrough has finally happened.

Life is bigger than we know. Life gives us surprises along the way. While I trusted the process when I was down in the trenches, I couldn’t see the roadmarkers that I tell you to watch for in the long gap. It is only now on this side, that I understand more deeply. I was doing a meditative writing to communicate with my deepest wisdom last week, and this is what was told to me about this last year.

      You were incubating your new life this past year. The retreat, depression, resignation were all a part of withdrawing yourself from the life you had created to date, so that you could birth a new, brilliant, glistening, fulfilled life.

After a year in stall, suddenly out of nowhere, my roommate showed me a piece of paper that she had written all the things she felt toward a person who had dealt her a tremendous amount of harm. Then she showed me another piece of paper that she had written an hour later after going through a process in a course she was just beginning. I was shocked. The perspective changed so dramatically and how she felt had changed so radically that I was in awe. A couple of weeks later she did the exercise again, and she got to a whole new place, where she now sees that this person had in fact saved her life – which I know to be true, because I have been watching her for two years. While traumatic, she has been freed up to live her life in a whole new way, which I am sure will add many more years of living to her.

My attention was completed riveted. I wanted to know what process she used. I signed up for the course and my life has been completed transformed. What is this course? It is called NeuroMastery. I’ll give you the link and you can check it out, because you can sign up for yourself if you want. It is available in video format and worth every penny that you will pay. This link sends you to an page that will allow you to hear about the process, which talks about the latest brain research that has been combined with EFT. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a process that has been used in many ways. It asks you to tap certain places on your head and torso – which are places on the body that can help the body switch from worry, stress, and trauma, to a place of calm, releasing the emotional charge and reactivity that one has been feeling.

Everyone I know who has taken this class has come out changed in some way. My roommate, my daughter and I have made vast changes. We each have shifted into more authority of ourselves. We are more confident. We are more genuine. We are more grounded into the essence of who we are. We are seeing our future in new ways. I have constantly been in shock as I watch myself, and these people I know deeply, walk and talk differently than I have ever seen.

My daughter is between jobs. Her goal for the class was to clean up her prosperity consciousness. Today I was speaking with her. Where she would have been in deep anxiety two months ago, because the next job has not shown up, and her financial resources are limited; now, she is only concerned, but not in a panic attack. Huge difference.

My goal for the class was to re-energize my work life which had been in a stall for a year, and fill myself with well-being. Not only have I gotten re-energized about my work, but my vision for the future has completely changed.  I have been walking around in bliss, I have huge amounts of energy, and I have given notice to my roommate, and will be moving to a San Juan Island where I have always wanted to live, and starting a residential facility where people can come to me to study.

I had to energetically let go of the life that I had created that is very comfortable to me, in order to conceive of an incredible future. That was what the last year was about. My roommate is rooting for me all the way, and so is my daughter. This vision came because I chose to accept the invitation of a friend to go spend 3 days on an island I had not yet visited. I was in bliss while I was there. On the second day, my friend Cindy gave me a mug that said “Dwell in Possibilities.” And I did, reveling in the experience and thinking about what it might be like to live some of my dreams.

When I got home, my daughter said, “Mom, you have been dreaming of living out there for 20 years. You are single, you are renting, you have a source of income to rely on. What is to stop you from doing it in the next two years?”

Two years, heck. How about now!

So. There are many wonders to come into being, and you can come on the journey with me.

Self Confidence and the Law of Success

Self Confidence and the Law of Success are intertwined. When you feel good about yourself and walk with self confidence, others respond to your self confidence in a positive way. There have been several points in my career when I hesitated to move forward because I did not have the self confidence. When I embody self-confidence, good things come my way.

How we feel about ourselves depends upon what lens we are looking through. Another way of saying it is how we are identified inside. If there is a scared, little part of me, then that part sees through a lens of doubt and fear. When I am centered in the adult competent and wise part of myself, then I have ample self confidence.

There is an exercise called “Who Am I.” Take a piece of paper and write down the left side, the numbers 1 through 20. Then one at a time, write an answer to the question “Who Am I?”

Who we are is often evoked by a reaction to what’s happening in our life. Those people who are self-confident have more anchors to the part of them that feels strength, upbeat, is optimistic, and knows how to problem-solve. Where ever we are identified, we set up a field of resonance. If you feel small and a bit of a victim, then you will attract circumstances and people who will see you as small and as a victim. When you are centered in the strength and possibilities of yourself, you attract people who see you that way.

Therefore Self Confidence is an important attribute to the Law of Success. It gets you into the Zone. (Click on any of the highlighted words to take you to another article related to self confidence.) You can coach yourself through doubt and fear into self confidence to utilize the Law of Success. You can help yourself return to self confidence by remembering your strengths. You can retrain your thoughts by applying the four cornerstones:

      THIS WILL PASS
      THIS IS ONLY A SMALL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE

When we don’t feel self-confident, it is hard to look for a job, ask for a raise, or begin a new venture. We can enhance our self confidence. We can reach within to the spark of life and fan the embers. Take little steps. Choose to look for something you like about your self. Remember times when you did something well. The more time you spend changing your thoughts and visualizing your success, the more self confident you will become and then the Law of Success will operate smoothly with you.

“Self Confidence and Success”

Self Confidence and Success Happiness and Fulfillment are closely related. In earlier posts on Optimism, Positive Attitude and Positive Thinking, the focus was on optimism. Let’s look at self confidence and its relationship with success.

People who have self confidence have more success in their lives. People who have more success feel more self confident. It’s like the old chick and the egg question. Which comes first? It doesn’t matter. Increase your self confidence and success will follow. Increase success and self confidence will rise.

What does it mean to have self confidence? Most of us thing that means we have faith in our own personal judgment, abilities and power. The characteristics of person with self confidence are

    They are pleasant people to be around
    They are cheerful and have a positive outlook on life
    People of all kinds like them and becomes friends
    They feel fulfilled in their own life.

We can sense when someone doesn’t have self confidence. If they are trying to sell us something, we are not likely to buy, because we know they don’t believe in themselves, and so why should we? It’s hard to be successful when we lack self confidence.

We live in a culture where it has become normal to put ourselves down. When we do that we cut away at our own belief in ourselves. Even the most self confident person still wonders and worries, and questions their ability.

We’re putting the spotlight on Self Confidence because it is so vital to understand that Self Confidence is an important asset we each either have or can learn. We must become more confident, in order to nurture our own success. It is hard to have a positive attitude and think positive thoughts, when filled with self doubt.

It’s not only OK to be Self Confident; it is Absolutely Necessary to your Success. Tomorrow we will talk more about how to build self confidence.
