Happiness Before Success

Many of us chase Success in order to become happy and fulfilled. The formula that was taught by schools, parents, the company we work for, or society says ‘If you work hard, you will be successful and then you will be happy.’ Almost two decades of research indicates this isn’t true.

Putting on a happy face is not what we are talking about here. Happiness is “learning how to cultivate the mindset and behaviors that have been proven to fuel greater success and fulfillment. It is a work ethic.” (Shawn Achor in The Happiness Advantage) Imagine! Happiness being a work ethic!

Not only does being happy improve relationships, performance, your health, and enables you to live longer, but it causes success and achievement. You’ve heard of the flight or fight response. Positive Psychology research has found that happiness has an evolutionary contribution that is called “Broaden and Build” (instead of shrink, freeze or flee). When our mindset or mood is positive we are more motivated, more creative, smarter, and more successful.

Negative emotions narrow our options and actions. Positive emotions opens us up to possibilities, allows us to think more creatively, become more motivated, and open to new ideas. “They help us build more intellectual, social, and physical resources we can rely on in the future (Achor).” Not only can we think better, we can also see more!!!!! We can physically see more, process more visual stimulation, and actually expand our peripheral vision when we have a positive mindset, or a burst of positive emotion. This is powerful data! I’ve been saying on this blog that scarcity consciousness contracts and optimism and thriving helps us expand. Now data shows that it actually does exactly that.

A couple of examples. Students who were told to think of the happiest days of their lives just before an exam out performed those people who didn’t think positive thoughts. A study using experienced doctors looking at descriptions of symptoms were able to get to an accurate diagnosis twice as fast as the control group. The thing that made them happy? They were given a piece of candy for no reason (but did not eat it) just before starting their analysis.

Guess what else it does? Positive emotions help undo stress and anxiety! This allows us to improve our focus, and function at a higher ability. If you are needing to perform for example on a presentation thinking of successful times that you have already presented, or imagining your presentation going well, or watching a video that uplifts you or gives you a smile, will allow you to make a better presentation.

When we give ourselves quick positive boosts, we can function better in the moment. When we do this over time, we raise our baseline of happiness. What we want to do is develop a list of activities, thoughts that can give us a quick boost, or remember times that makes us smile. A short humorous video clip, listening to a favorite song, petting your dog, having a quick conversation with a friend, cleaning your bathroom or kitchen, are things you might do to lift your spirits and give yourself an enormous boost in performance.

Shawn Achor gives a list of suggested things to do which give us a quick boost of positive emotions which can help us change and lift our mindset. Over time, if we do this, we raise our happiness set point.

  1. Meditate
  2. Find Something to Look forward to. (Put something on your calendar that you can have the pleasure of anticipating.
  3. Commit Conscious Acts of Kindness (giving to friends and or strangers decreases stress and raises your mood)
  4. Put things in your surroundings that bring you pleasure – like pictures of family near your computer at work.
  5. Spending time outside improves your mood, improves working memory, and broadens your thinking.
  6. Perhaps watching less TV, especially violent media. Psychologists have found that people who watch less TV are more accurate judges of risks and rewards, because they are less likely to see sensationalized or one-sided sources of information.
  7. Exercise. One study show that 3 groups of depressed people were studied. One was given antidepressants, and the second group was asked to exercise 45 minutes 3 times a week, and the third was a combination of both. All 3 groups showed similar improvements after 4 months. After 6 months, of the medication alone group, 38% had relapsed back into depression. The exercise only group only had a relapse factor of 9%. Exercise any way you want, because it gives you a long lasting effect.
  8. Go to activities like concerts, group dinners out or spend money on someone else.
  9. Exercise a Signature Strength. We are all good at a number of things. Whenever we do the things that we are good at, we experience a boost of positivity. You can take a survey at www.viasurvey.org to find out what your top five strengths are. The 24 character strengths that are assessed are the ones most contributing to human flourishing.
  10. While Achor did not list this, two posts ago, I listed writing into your book of positive aspects as something to do at the beginning of each day. Today, I am amending that to make a list of recent things that have made your smile or feel really good. And keep adding to it, because when you are not happy, you will not remember these things.

My friend Nisha told me today that our brains are wired to loop again and again with a playlist of how to stay safe (from our survival training of watch out for bears, lions, and tigers, or falling off cliffs). Smiles, and positive thoughts don’t make that playlist. That is why we have to consciously choose to reach for better feeling thoughts and experiences. I am hunching that this is what Dr. Achor meant when he suggest happiness is a work ethic.

So I was feeling down when I started reading The Happiness Advantage, and was so refreshed to read about the research that shows how remarkably reaching for a better feeling thought, a better feeling experience helps us to be successful in our lives, in our relationships, in our work, in our performance, in our earning ability. Being conscious about where we are emotionally pays great dividends.

Alignment with True Self

Focusing on aligning my state of being with my deepest truest self has been most important to me these last two weeks.  One of the ways I do that is to listen to an inspirational uplifting message.   Today I was listening to a You Tube audio called Rampage in the Receptive Mode, published by Heaven on Earth.

I wrote down word for word what this spiritual guide suggested.

“If we were standing in your physical shoes, we would do these things every day.”  My intent was to bring into vibrational alignment my personal self and my truest self so that I would be in a state of being that is conducive to creating.  I have a category on this blog called State.  This is the description of that category.

Your state, state of mind, state of being, state of awareness, state of consciousness, is the single most important aspect to your success. If there is conflict in your state, your success is hindered. If you are aligned personal self and Source Self, you are unstoppable.”

Abraham went on to describe in the video I was watching the 4 steps they thought we physical humans would most benefit from, and I said “Aha”  I know these steps.  Am I doing them?

1. “We would meditate for 15 minutes every day.” Quietening the mind allows us to relax into the flow of being where we are aligned with the best and highest in ourselves.

2. “We would go outside no matter what the weather and we’d move around in it in an appreciation of this planet. We would look up and around and we would find things to acknowledge, and we would talk to them out loud.”

3. “We would create a notebook. We would call it my book of positive aspects. We would fill at least three, four, five is even better, pages of positives on five different subjects.  . . This is training your vibration into an upward place.”

4. “We would look upward and outward.  It would be best if you are standing outside or standing next to a window.  We would acknowledge that there are universal forces that are focused right at you.”  Abraham suggested that we call it by the name we  are comfortable.

What is your language for “God?”  I use such words as The Divine, Creator, Source, Universe, The Source that creates worlds.  But when I  am more contracted and smaller, I use the language that I learned in my church, which was God, or Jesus.  Abraham goes on to say something like the following.

Creative Source, “I acknowedge that I am the object of your positive attention and I am appreciating your continual gaze on behalf of my well-being. .. Today no matter where I am, no matter where I am going, no matter what I am doing and no matter who I am doing it with, I will be in conscious awareness that you too are there with me. “

Source, ” you are appreciating me

supporting me

assisting me

acknowledging me

inspiring me

guiding me

having fun with me

acknowledging me

supporting me

assisting me

inspiring me

helping me

guiding me

aware of me

loving me

showing me

inspiring me

guiding me

 uplifting me

showing me. . . . .”

Abraham suggests that we set up a continual loop of acknowledgement that might look like the above and suggests that we watch because as soon as even today, our life will begin to change.

Meditation is powerful.  I have written at least nine posts about Meditation.  There are many ways to meditate.  I’m writing a book about it and yet, I keep forgetting how important it is. I start the practice, and then get diverted by a health or emotional crisis, and then my ego kicks in and says, “it is hard to surrender to a higher power because I don’t want to lose my free will.”  What gobbledygook!

Going outside is so important.  In my blog entry  “Receptively Tuning In “I write about a meditative practice that I do sitting outside.  I can feel my whole being begin to soften, get into flow, become more alive as I walk out in nature, or sit out on my balcony and commune with the outside world.

Training ourselves to raise our vibration by writing about Positive Aspects is a powerful, powerful idea.  I usually journal and then write to my own inner guidance, but the idea of writing about the positive aspects of five different subjects is something I want to try.  In “Positivity, A Secret to Success” I wrote “Dr Fredrickson research indicates that we need a ratio of 3:1 positive feelings and experiences to thrive and flourish; to be the best version of you.”   I wrote in  “Strengths and Success”  “Everyone needs at least five positive interactions for every negative interaction. That is the magic ratio” which is suggested by Tom Rath and Donald Clifton in their book “How Full is Your Bucket.  I am looking forward to practicing this idea  by starting a positive aspects book.

I love the idea of acknowledging to Source that we know that it has us in its gaze, and doing the loop of acknowledgement.  Sounds very much like Prayer to me.  How very powerful. In “Vibration, the Law of Attraction and the Law of Success” I describe how Napoleon Hill, and Wallace Wattles both write about the secret of creating success and much of it was edited out of their work.  When we align our vibratory frequency with the greater reality of the intelligence of the Living God within ourselves, our best, truest self; we are unstoppable.  We can create anything that we can think of.

Let’s try these four ways of upping our frequency, getting into receptive mode, so that we can begin to manifest all the things that we have put into our vibrational escrow (which Abraham calls the Vortex).  Abraham says that what we have created is waiting for us to align with it, in order for them to show up physically in our lives.  I know its time.

LIFE IS GOOD

If there has been a focus in this blog during the last ten years, it has been “How can I live my life sublimely, in my greatest self, aligned and tuned in?  That is what I have concluded from my life experience. To be happy, to be full of well-being, to act in the world in an inspired way, to be successful, whole, healthy and wise; then there was a state of being that I aspired to.  I have spent an entire life trying to find the way to move out of my painful patterns of reaction, into a mode where I choose who I am, rather than be the Reaction to my Outward Environment.

Last night I remembered a beautiful moment in my life when that fullness of being, that connection with Life happened and it was magical.  I was 26 or so, attending a Sid Simon workshop on Values Clarification (which was really a personal growth workshop – but for me, it was spiritual). We continually affirmed each other.  We were constantly in pairs, looking into each other’s eyes for 2 minutes, answering the question that Sid asked us to speak about, and then with loving humor, we would feed back to that person something we absolutely adored about them (just from that 2 minute interaction).  It was profound for the young woman I was who was so starved for positive feedback.

On the last night (a Thursday) we had a talent show which lasted until 3:00 am. At 4:00 am we all loaded into cars and drove out to Miami Beach to watch the sun rise.

I think the sun rose for the  majestic first in my life metaphorically.  As I sat on my meditation bench, full from the experience with 40 – 50 people appreciating each other, I watched the sky lighten.  I was so full.  My heart soared. My spirit was peaceful.  As the sun began to sliver above the horizon, my soul began to sing. I moved into the most profound connection that I have ever experienced.  My cells sang with exuberant joy.  I was completely a part of all that is. I was the sky, I was the moon, I was the water, I was the sand. I was the wave, I was the ginormous awareness bigger than a personal self could ever be.  I wept with joy. I was called to celebrate this incredible beautiful experience we call life by dancing with arms raised into the water.

That time felt endless. There was no time. There was no space, there was only joyous communion.

There is so much more to this story.  Miraculous things happened which I will save for another time.

Today, I am sitting in a study, writing, looking out onto the beautiful world, just having returned from an incredible event in Nanaimo Canada called The Science and Spirituality Conference.  From Wednesday June 13 till Wednesday June 20, I travelled and soaked up the human wisdom that some people I greatly admire have generated from their life’s work; Gregg Braden, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Lynne McTaggart, Dr. Bruce Lipton, and Lee Carroll.  I feel today as I felt that gorgeous Friday morning in Miami. Truly blissful, connected to Oneness.

Together 1500 people along with the staff and the presenters, created a field of connection and possibility that has allowed me to feel like dancing with joy, as I did in the Atlantic waters. Now some 40 years+ I am bathing in the waters of my soul while living next to and visiting the waters of the Pacific.

I have aspired to a State of Being where my personal self is aligned with my Source Self.  I am feeling as though I have asked and asked and asked, and finally the universe has given me far more than I ever could have anticipated.

The three months leading up to the conference helped me anchor my intention.  It also allowed some deep processes that cleared the obstructions that kept me mired in reaction.  Unpleasant they were, but I embrace them so excitedly because they freed me to go to the conference free of expectation, free of trying to get what I needed, free from trying to take what I wanted out of desperation, and move to a state of appreciation of myself for going, appreciation for the staff for creating this miraculous event, and the appreciation of and wonder of that many people coming together of like mind.

I feel as though I have circled again into that state of bliss and oneness that led to miracles.  But the state of Being In Oneness is so compelling, that I am so happy to just be here in this moment, in this time, still connected to that incredible field of Quantum Possibility, the Divine, the Matrix, Source, none of which really names even closely what the experience is.

How powerful.  We are living in such wonderful times.  They can be uncomfortable, but such a huge state of shift is happening.  And we are a part of it. LIFE IS GOOD!

What an amazing journey life is!  I feel like I have spent all my life coming to this point in the here in now, where I finally can be the me that I came here to be.  I stand on the cusp of a fascinating birthday – one which I have faced in the past with quite a bit of trepidation.

Now, I am so excited to see what the next 30 or 40 years brings.  Thank you for joining this journey with me.

Daily Meditation is Essential

My life has revolutionized itself in the last 60 days. I have taken up the practice of a certain type of meditation. It has become the highest priority in my life. Every day, that half hour of meditation is more important than anything else.

I have been meditating for at least 48 years, in some fashion. What’s so special about what I am doing now? Nothing! The fact that I am doing it every day is what is special. It is turning my life around.

All of my adult life I have wanted a stable center that I can count on. The older I have gotten, the more important it has become. I am a strong personality, but also a very intuitive and sensitive person. I often have felt in the past that I lived on the top of the sea where the waves collided and crashed, and my life in a small boat was mostly reactive. I have asked many years for a way to become my own stable base to be anchored into the still waters of the deep.

Finally, after starting this practice which I created myself (no, it’s not eastern meditation), I am on fire with energy, with happiness, and with a deep connection to my own stable base. Holy Smoke!

Over the last 10 years I have written in this blog many times about meditation. Two years ago I started a kind of meditation that had me sit outside and just be. It’s wonderful. You can read about it in Receptively Tuning in. I still love it, and still use it.

In Meditate to a New State of Being I write about yet another style of meditation of becoming soft while looking into the flame of a wood stove. I have a style of meditative writing I have been doing for more than 35 years which I describe in “Tap Your Wisdom.” I use prayer as a meditation as well as imagery. One of my most favorite techniques I call 17 seconds which I embrace in “Prosperity Success Secret of 17 Seconds.” Meditation is not new to this blog. I have written a category of entries about acquiring a State of Being where you can be your best self, and tap into success and the flow of life.

This blog began as an exploration of the Law of Success. It gravitated over time to talk about the Art of Creation of your success by tapping into your Source Self (the law of attraction). To create the magnified results we want, I have concluded we have to lift our vibration, integrate the various aspects of our self, and align into a state of flow and joy. Often we send very mixed signals to the universe. Getting those signals cohesive is important and can only be done in a certain state of being. The brief description offered in The Art of Connecting with the Power of Creation might help.

That’s a short summary of what I have written to you these last many years. After all this time, I feel like I have made another breakthrough, and it came as a result of the pain of the dark night of the soul that I lived through from January through early March of this year resisting the call of my sublime self. I had a ‘come to Jesus’ moment with my inner wisdom and told it how I really felt, and two days later I sat down, meditated, and my life began to change and blossom. I can’t wait to tell you more.

Receptively Tuning In

My intention is to have more inner stability so that I am at peace and happy no matter what is happening with my health, with my life, with my finances, with my housing, with politics, with the community where I live; no matter what is happening in my outside or inside world.

While I was ill for so long, I began feeling at the mercy of my illness (a victim mentality). When I got depressed as I watched the national and global scene this year, I felt at the mercy of current events. When I got mad at what was happening in the community where I lived, I wanted to rant and scold, and make others bad or wrong (perpetrator mentality). When I got afraid for my daughter as her life changed, I wanted to help (invoking my seeing of her as a victim, and me as a rescuer).  None of these stances; victim, perpetrator, rescuer; come from a centered, empowered place.  So we all have these perspectives inside us.  We have grown up in cultures that evoke that of us.  But today’s topic is not about the victim, perpetrator rescuer or drama triangle, it is about trying to get off that platform, and in tune with our largest vision.

One last thought about the drama or victim triangle, is that we go there when we are afraid or have some deep anxiety.  It is often the way we experience our power (either under or over someone else, or by feeling like we know more than someone else so can help them – yuck).

So one way off that triangle is to feel our own internal power.  Another way is to feel at peace and free of fear.  Being happy is a very wonderful way to stay off the triangle.

Curiously, success – which so many of us reach for, is our way of trying to be happy.  We think “if I can just have lots of success, lots of money, good relationships, security, I will be happy.

In the Abraham Hicks work, if you are happy, you set up internal conditions, you set up alignment with Source so that you feel happy, and what you have desire for is much more likely to flow to you.  That too is beyond today’s entry, but it is basic to my approach.

I want to be happy. I don’t want to worry about the future, the present, and I want to look with anticipation to the continuation of this adventure of life.

So my continuing question these days is “how do I stay happy”?  One of my ways (there are many), is to attune to and align with the Life Force that flows through me.   You could call it the Source that flows through me.   To do that, I need to be receptive.

Now I have a very active and sometimes wild mind. It does not like being quiet.  So I have developed a number of ways to deal with the mind of mine that likes to take an image, or an event, chew it to death, and show me how awful the world is.  Nope.  That is not conducive to being happy.

Most meditation is for the purpose of doing one thing:  Quietening the mind.  So I have to outsmart it.  The news here is that I have done it enough, so that I have confidence, and I know how to adjust my focus.  As you learn, you just have to practice, not judge yourself, and note what works, gently leading self back to the state you are reaching for. The state I am looking for is the flow and being happy. One of the two ingredients for being in Flow is to be happy.

Here’s one practice I do that really helps.  I want to be in the flow. I go outside as early in the day as I can, usually with a cup of hot tea. I sit down in a place where I am very unlikely to be interrupted, and I look and watch. For a while nothing happens.  I take a breath and allow myself to relax a bit more. I observe. I listen.  I hear noises, the train, traffic, and after a while, I might begin to hear bird sounds.  That takes a while, because if I step out onto the deck, in the back, it takes a while for any activity to happen.

As I look at the sky and the trees, and the grass, I find something that I appreciate about this particular day.  Today, it was raining, So I was appreciative for the overhang over the deck. I appreciated the warmth of my two coats, and that the weather was warm enough that I could stay outside today.  I love the cup I use for my tea, and I savor the warmth of holding the cup in my hand.  These are very simple things.  Yesterday, even though it was grey, it was not raining, so I appreciated the rain-free day.

As I appreciate where I am, my focus is on this moment, not on anything about what I am going to do for the day, It is just bringing attention to this moment.  When I find something to appreciate, I almost smile.  That feels good. I try to smile, and that feels even better.

Nature is very soothing to me.  Green is beautiful. I look at the evergreen trees, and the structure of the trees that have lost all their leaves.  Looking at their shape pleases me.  And I smile a little.  And I take a deep breath and relax some more.  I notice that my focus goes just a little diffuse. I am sitting very still.  I am waiting for what I have discovered next.

I notice that as I continue to relax, and stay watching what is happening at this very moment, and feeling the very small pleasures of my body in this moment, I get even quieter, and I go deeper and more relaxed.  I am looking for nothing (yet), but simple seeing what the world has to show me today – which more likely is some kind of animal life.

The more still I am, the more relaxed I am, the better I am feeling. I smile. I wait.  I know that most likely I will see birds.  But they are needing to know I am safe and not a threat. They don’t show up for a while.

As I navigate this time of being outside, I know it is a sacred time, and I don’t usually get impatient. The waiting is part of stilling the mind.  My eyes are active.  I think that is my secret. Observing, my focus is not on what I am thinking, but what I am seeing.  I am comfortable for the most part, I get happy the longer I sit there, and I know that eventually I will see some kind of animal, and then I will feel delight.  They have begun to show me their world, and its a delight.

Today, before I saw any birds, I wondered “What do birds do while it is raining?”  That was the most thought I had, and almost at that moment, a small bird flew into the leafless tree in front of me, landed, and then started shaking off its wings.  I smiled, and savored seeing the bird and what it was doing.  Then I saw more birds, and it was lovely to watch what they were doing.  Soon I began to hear bird calls, and the bird I was watching responded to the call of another bird.  Watching Life in the form of a little bird is intoxicating.

Now, I am no longer aware of how cold it is, or my wet clothes from sitting down on a damp chair, I am captivated by the delight of what I am watching.

While I watch the birds, I am not thinking of anything but the joy of watching them, and I sink deeper into the experience and savor it.

Every day it is different. Yesterday I saw a squirrel working on building a nest, and watched him traverse his highway through the trees.

My heart opens, my mind is quiet, my body is quiet, and I soak up the stillness and the privilege of being alive.

I am more tuned into my own Beingness.

I have created a container in myself of joy and attunement.  I go into my life for the day. I hold bliss to my heart.

What Two Ingredients Put You Into Flow?

These last three months, I have not been in Flow. Before I tell you about the two special ingredients of Flow, which I am so glad I remembered I want to tell you my journey.

My consciousness has been getting more alert and I feel I can see more. Some truly spectacular things have been happening for me, and yet it has been a very jerky ride. One day things are great. The next day, or moment, things are upside down again.

Usually, when I am in the flow, my life feels magical. Reality seems to actually become pliable. This life these last three months? Not so much. Yet I have made huge strides in clarity, self-confidence, boundaries, speaking my truth, and the most wonderful thing is that I have dropped a huge amount of reactivity. I am more authentic, powerful, and straightforward. And with this empowerment a few darker areas of my consciousness came to light.

These High Octane Times
Here’s what I’m thinking. We are in times when things are shifting big time. If you can stay tuned in, tapped in, turned on to life, your awareness will expand and you see multiple dimensions of possibility.

But making this shift is a challenge. Whatever is not alive and awake comes up and grabs you and says “Wake up!” It is not fun getting those wake up calls. But the potential is phenomenal and the energy is here for us to transform exponentially. The energy will propel us forward powerfully. Of course when we hit a snag, it feels like running into a tree when we have been going 100 miles an hour.

For a while in this high octane energy field, I got lost in some depression, some nostalgia during the holidays, and having poor health for at two months.

So what did I do? I read, relaxed, tried to get well, and worked my emotional process. I got somewhat lost in the feelings, though I trusted the process and knew it would lead me forward.

Remembering at Last
This morning I was inspired to relisten to a seven minute video Vishen Lahkiani, CEO of a personal growth company called MindValley. He reminded me of those essential ingredients to the state of flow and four states of mind in his video Flow, The Paradox of Intention and Four States of Mind. I thought you might enjoy his perspective.

Four States of Mind
Vishen identifies these four states of those people who are business owners and follow the Law of Attraction. Vishen has developed this concept over a couple of years and says the Flow is the 4th step. Here is a description of each state, and the name I call them.

1. Misery or Survival

        You are completely unhappy right now –

2. Comfort of Current Reality.

        You are happy, content, but you have no vision. ‘Let’s all hang out in Bliss.’ –

3. Stress and Anxiety

        You have great dream and visions, but unhappy because they are not there yet –

4. Flow

        When you are happy now, you have a vision and are happy with the journey –

While I was working my process, I had gotten lost in the Stress and Anxiety State of Mind. And sometimes that’s just natural. I was looking at a core pattern that I want to transform. This pattern has deep roots, has operated for my lifetime, and had a very dark piece that came into being to protect an innocent child.

This journey into Stress and Anxiety was an intentional act of courage to look at a core wound I have so that I can transmute this pattern and restore my connection with “Who I really Am.” I just got bogged down in the survival vibrations along the way.

Two Ingredients to Flow
So what are the two ingredients to restore myself to Flow? According to Vishen I need to:

    Be happy now (before I reach my dream).
    Have the vision of where I am headed.

So happiness is part of the journey not the destination. This balancing of happiness right in this moment, while aspiring for something we want or are dreaming about is something Esther Hicks calls The Gap in the Law of Attraction work.

Vishen is saying “Get rid of Stress and Anxiety while you are on the journey.” And that my friends are what we are called to do right now in these times. It is not always easy, but it is incredibly fulfilling. See Journeying Through the Gap.

Ways to Stay Happy
We need to put systems in place to help us be happy along the way. Here is Vishen’s list of practices to keep ourselves happy. I link to past blog entries that are my input on these practices.

1. Meditation.

Last month I worked on my Vision Board for 2015. So I am very clear about my vision this year. I just had forgotten to be happy along the way (even though it is on my Vision Board). I’m reminding myself about ways to go back to being happy. Counting my blessing always makes me feel better.

This journey of living and becoming more conscious is a constant growing and then rebalancing process and sometimes we forget along the way. It’s just natural. And now that I’ve finished this essay, I realize that I knew all this all the time – just as you do too. We’re just human beings doing the best we can. We are constantly Remembering and Forgetting.

Meditation, Manifestation and the Law of Success

Meditation and Manifestation was the emphasis in my morning inspirational reading. So I practiced a new meditation of sitting, eyes closed, breathing, back against the headboard. Think “So” as you breathe in and “Hum” as you breathe out.

Moving Meditation
I liked it. Because meditation is such a fertile state for me, my creativity began zooming quite soon. So I took some notes, going in and out of my meditative state. Hum. After 25 minutes I needed to move. I held the question, what can I do that will allow me to move, but not get out of the zone, and not interrupt my plans for the next couple of hours? I could move my car – which had been parked on the street overnight. As I went out at 9:15 a.m. into the crisp August morning, I exulted once again in where I live, and the universe’s response to bringing me to my home base. My meditation had left me in flow. I had shifted state. See how I manifested my home base at 10 steps to Turning Burning Goals Into Reality.

As I looked around I noticed the landscaping. Since it was early enough in the day, and I had made an agreement to do some watering, I went, “OK. I can water.” So I gently got out the hose, and wondered how I could stay in a meditative state while I was moving around watering?

Soaking in Aliveness
I remembered how my father had planted tiny trees onto his lot in Kerrville Texas into kalechi soil. Every night, he took out his chair, because he could not stand for long, and he sat and held the hose for each tree to drink their fill. Hum. He would sit in the quiet of the evening and pray and meditate. When I would visit, I could stand with him while he watered and we would talk. It’s a lovely memory. A few years ago, I drove by my parents’ old house. There those trees were, now thirty feet high. My father contributed there. He is still alive in the roots and trunks of those trees. His meditations left tangible results. I felt full, alive, and connected as I held those memories. I felt full because I had been in a state of meditation, and I slowed down enough to really soak in being alive.

Gratitude for a Major Manifestation
As I watered, neighbors said hello. I felt more deeply connected into this community that I have just adopted. This community is another manifestation. I had placed “Community Connection” on my vision board in January. Now in August, I am in my haven and home base with a glorious roommate, and an extraordinary community who welcomes me.

So as I watered, I was filled with gratitude for all the wonderful gifts and manifestations that are pouring into my life. Hum. I have asked, and the universe has responded with a far more elegant solution than I had imagined possible. Last year’s vision board had beautiful pictures of a home with deck and porch nestled in lovely plantings of bushes and flowers. Here I was standing in a lovely manifestation of that vision.

The water fountain elements next door can be heard as I sit here and write. That beautiful essence so like spirit, just burbling and flowing in gentle sounds.

Out of Meditation comes Inspiration, Healthy Self Talk and Action
I’m in my home base, and I’m writing. I’m so happy. This blog post, many creative ideas for my future books, and a book that is almost complete are results from meditation. I am in the midst of this new manifestation. I have joined an online community of authors who are committed to publishing their Kindle books. Life is good. Things work out for me. I am in the flow, and the Universe is responding. I give thanks whenever I talk with others. The story I tell is how wonderful things are, and what a powerful manifestation this has been.

Bridging the Gap With Meditation
I’m bridging the gap of the next manifestation which I promised myself I would do when I was settled in my home base. I promised I would publish a whole series of books. And now I am in the gap between having asked, and the receiving of this next big piece. Much comes up in the gap – which is another whole blog at least. When we are in that gap, we don’t know how it is all going to happen. Who do you know is comfortable being in the unknown? Very few.

So what do I do with all the fears, discomfort and issues that come up in this gap? They have to be dealt with some way, because if they don’t, my manifestation will not happen. I will not be able to align with Source enough to allow the manifestation to be realized in physical reality.

Hum. One powerful way is to go into prayer and meditation. It is one way to slip out of the cultural and belief hypnosis that binds us to doing things the old way. We actually can leave the mind, its worries and concerns hitched to a post, and go where there is fluidity, and flow. Our vibration rises. Our body settles down and in. We have access to faith and knowing, prosperity and plenty. What a gift we receive from the practice of prayer and meditation.

And in flow, creativity flirts and beckons. Flow is such a luscious juicy place.

And here I am, in flow, writing my blog entry today. How absolutely delicious. Easy, effortless. What an incredible way to live life. “Be easy about it. Have fun with it” says Abraham.

How different it is to write from this place, to create from this place, especially while I am in the gap between finishing my first book, and getting it published. What would it be like to live the rest of this gap in the easy effortless place? What a concept!

Meditation Benefits
So for today, my dip into meditation delivered a whole new vibratory place, and a way to live through the next month or two. Hum and a delicious side benefit is that you get to read this blog I wrote unexpectedly. A miraculous little manifestation which I had not planned for today. It gives me a sign about the larger manifestation of the book. “It can happen. And I am happy and so joyful and filled with deep appreciation for this wonderful place where I live. And I have created another huge manifestation, and my body gets to know at a visceral level that manifestation has happened, and it will happen again. So of course I will find a way through this gap, and allow the Universe to sound through me, and my books will become a reality.”

Life as Prayer in the Gap
So now I can soothe my fears with this kind of deliciousness and self talk, and I feel full and excited. Hum. I am connected with certainty and knowing, because more detail has become known to me. I trust in my process. I am learning to trust in Source, in God, in the Universe, as the true Source of all. And the way I tune into that Source, is through prayer and meditation. Thank you Beloved Source for all you give. I thankfully and joyously receive. And So it is. And I Hum.

Meditate. Why? Meditate to use Laws of Success? Is it a fad to meditate? Meditation is a practice to allow you to use more of your brain and creativity. Meditation is a doorway to reconnect with your essential self. Today we want to talk directly to your left brain; your reasoning brain, the left brain that you were trained to use by education. If you understand the logic about how the right brain and the left brain functions, you can choose to make more space for the right side of the brain. When you can not use your right brain as well as your left brain, you are crippled. Faith, Trust, Knowing the Mystery, Expectation, Wonder, and Imagination are all attributes of the right side of the brain. You need all those capacities as well as your logic, in order to operate the Laws of Success. When you meditate you have access to both your left and right brain. That is why it is essential to meditate in order to use the laws of success

You were functioning mostly in your right hand brain between the ages of 7 and 14. This level can be measured in brain cycles per second called hertz. You brain waves vibrate from 7 to 14 hertz per second. This level is called alpha. Your right brain is where you can connect with your intuition. Your right brain is creative, imaginative. It allows you to see things holistically. The world you focus on is your subjective experience. We can be anywhere or anyplace and in any time in our imagination. Thoughts and images are the primary vehicle of this state. When you meditate, you slow your brain cycles down enough so you can access you right brain. When you meditate your brain slows down to the alpha level.

You probably switched over to using your left brain when you were around 14. When you function primarily from the left side of the brain, your brain waves move in a faster frequency (14 to 21 hertz per second). This level is called beta. You are focused on the outside world and preoccupied with what outside sources think. You are action oriented. We learn this as a result of going to school. That is where we become preoccupied with what we can see, touch, and hear. We learn to only trust the physical world that we know through our senses. We learned to look at parts, instead of the whole. A lot of us left behind the use of our right brain, because our environment was requesting that we use only our left brain. As adults, many of us have forged a rut and only operate on beta brain cycles. We are limited to knowing only through our five senses. We focus on time and the space we can see or know about. It’s a pretty barren universe from this left brain perspective. When we live in the beta level of everyday consciousness, we are not tuned into our other capacities such as intuition, imagination, expectation of good things, seeing the integral connectivity of life.

If you sit down to meditate and your mind has been in the beta rut for years, thoughts just circle frantically with a buzz. It is very difficult to turn off rampant thought which is obsessing about the outside world. That is why meditation is a practice. We have to learn how to slow our brain waves down. Meditation is the practice of slowing ourselves down, inside and out, so that we can access both sides of our brains, and the greater aspects of ourselves.

To meditate is to allow your brain to slow itself down, to the lower brain frequencies of the alpha state. If you have ever done a guided meditation, you know that you can go anywhere in that meditative state – a warm beach, a beautiful summer meadow, and your outside focuses shifts into a slower mode where you relax deeply and tune into the parts of you that are not accessible when the brain is running at the faster frequencies of beta. It is important to go forth and meditate, meditate, meditate, and meditate some more. As you meditate, you can tap into those other aspects of you so necessary to the Law of Success. Meditate to a new State of Being that will bring you peace, prosperity, joy, and a deep personal connection between you, You, and the Universe. Meditation is an act of allowing yourself to settle into the quiet and profoundness of the essence of You.

As we grow up, we create our personalities in response to what and how we experience life. We are truly unbelievable creators, for our personalities are quite strong and opinionated.
But there is more to us than personalities. There is a cosmic seed in each of us that germinated and then we sprouted personalities. But that timeless essence is always available in each of us as well. Most of us just never learned to quieten ourselves to tune into it.

What we need to do is bypass all the clutter of thoughts, past hurts, emotional bruises, and the different world views and beliefs held close. Meditation is one way to do that. Contemplation and prayer are other ways. Use of imagination is yet another approach.

This winter, I have sat in front of many wood stoves and watched the fire. Each time I do, I find myself slowly relaxing, looking at the fire with soft eyes, and gently finding my way back to the fullness of well-being. We’re not trying to do anything, we are slowly relaxing back to the well-being of Source. That cosmic seed that still exists in each of us is a part of Source.

If you have been having a difficult time connecting with this idea that You that came from Source, then try sitting in front of a fire. Give yourself permission to sit as long as you want, and to drift into a zone where you are relaxed, enjoying the fire, present to the here and now (not off in past memories or future things to do).

Watch with soft eyes and a soft mind. Let yourself be lulled into the quiet. Savor the sweetness of watching the flames. Hear the quiet. Let the peace fill your mind and body. You need do nothing. You need not try anything. You’re just allowing yourself to settle deep into the essence of you where you feel like you, but you are deeply relaxed. You feel full. You have soft wonder of the flames.

There is a lulling past all thoughts and activity down to the core of you. Here there are no worries and cares, there’s just the gentle warmth of the fire, the flickering of the flame, and the deep quietness where you know all is well.

It is from this place, this state of being that we can create quickly and profoundly. for we have created resonance between our personality and our Source or Seed Self. Doing 17 seconds from this place within will bring profound results. This is the secret to the Law of Attraction that so many people don’t know or understand.

That secret is to shift into a state of being where there is resonance inside of you with the essence or core of You. Then in that state of resonance visualize in great detail what you wish, and stand in the knowing that all is well. In this zone of profound quietness, you will know that you are in tune, tapped in, and that there is nothing that you cannot do or have.

All you had to do was watch the fire, allow yourself to soften and relax back to the state where you are resonant with yourself.

Shift Your State

Shift your State when you are sending conflicting vibrations into the Universe. Your state of being is what you are offering the world vibrationally. Your state of being is what you are attracting to you. If you have gotten stuck in an identification, then you attract circumstances that match the feelings and beliefs of that identification.

For example when I was traveling, I ran out of money one year, and went to stay with my sister. She had hoped I was going to rescue her, and got very angry that I wasn’t willing to buy into her farm. She became cruel and abusive. I had a broken leg and was out of money, and felt vulnerable. I slipped into an earlier identification of feeling like I was a victim. As I went back to work, the victim mentality stayed with me, and I attracted not one, but two bosses who were also abusive. I was in a victim state.

That’s the way Law of Attraction works. Like attracts like. I felt abused. I got more of the same. Actually my sister was an angel in disguise because she helped bring out an area (an identification) that needed to be cleaned up in me vibrationally. My victim identification never believes there will be enough, contrary to the fact that I have lived a good life in wonderful places.

The gap between Source Self in me and Victim self is a pretty wide chasm. The two vibrational points in me, or you, send very differing messages into the Universe which are in conflict with each other. It is hard to manifest dreams, when a victim part of self is sending out victim vibrational offerings. Yesterday we talked about Understanding Your State.

Bridging the Gap

Traditions have used prayer, meditation, and contemplation as a way to bring our state of being into peace and harmony inside. These traditions help us bridge between Soul and Self, between Self and Universe, between Self and God. It helps us shift states, move out of a stuck point inside, and become more fluid.

Telling a new story
, Imagining our success, 17 seconds, thinking accurately, focusing on what we want, not on the ‘what is’ are also ways to change states.

Recognize, Accept, Compassionately Choose, Center, Act.
These are the basic steps to change your state. Recognize where you are identified. Accept that this is where you are. Have compassion with yourself. You are where you are. This identification served you at one time. Have gratitude for what it gave you then. Take a step back. Take a breath. Now, remember that you are more than this identification. You have a center. You can choose to move to that center. You can choose to act from that center.

Often if you can understand what’s going on, you can step away from the confusion and the turmoil into a more centered place. Congratulations, you just raised your vibration. You just upleveled your identification. You just changed your state.
