Imagination and the Law of Success

Imagination is a function and tool in the Law of Success. It is a function that has not been truly valued by many of us who use the Law of Success. The Genius of Creative Imagination is that one can ‘freely communicate with sources of knowledge not available through the ordinary rate of vibration of thought’ according to Napoleon Hill. His definition of genius is someone who can rise above the ordinary rate of vibratory thought through creative imagination and tap into region where one can find ideas and solutions beyond the ordinary.

“The faculty of creative imagination is the direct link between the finite mind of man and Infinite Intelligence. All so-called revelations, referred to in the realm of religion, and all discoveries of basic or new principles in the field of invention, take place through the faculty of creative imagination,” says Napoleon Hill. In this principle of the Law of Success, Hill is talking of that small still voice, of ‘hunches” and flashes that often deliver some brilliant knowledge.

Roberto Assagioli stated that imagination used in a precise way to evoke and create images “is one of the most important and spontaneously active functions of the human psyche, both in its conscious and unconscious levels.” Jung and Assagioli listed imagination as one of six functions of humans: Thoughts, Feelings, sensations (the five senses), intuition, imagination, impulse-desire. The Myers-Briggs Indicator helps identify which functions are more developed with each person. Imagination is a vital tool of the Law of Success.

Why was imagination so important a function? Assagioli quote Charles Baudoin “Every image has in itself a motor-drive.” Assagioli went on to say “images and mental pictures tend to produce the physical condition and the external acts corresponding to them.” The use of the “ideal model” toward which to strive was one of his major tools for synthesis. Assagioli and Psychosynthesis have relied on the asset of imagination subtly using the Law of Success.

Imagination according to Hill allows the mind to move to an exalted plane of THOUGHT, where it is receptive to ideas which can originate from outside the person. These ideas could come from the person’s own subconscious, from Infinite Intelligence, and from others as well. In this function, the Law of Success functions in a way to both impel and attract ideas and form.
