Self Awareness

Self Awareness is vital. Our success, our joie de vivre, our fulfillment in life depends on our field of awareness, our state of mind, our state of consciousness. Our job is self awareness. At this moment where or who are we in this field of consciousness? Holding the awareness of this immediate perspective of consciousness and simultaneously remembering The Self is a huge job. Most of us don’t do it, or can’t do it yet.

Our awareness both expands and shrinks, depending upon our state of consciousness. If I feel scarcity, I contract. If I feel the awe of seeing the rosy, sun kissed top of the Olympic Peninsula Mountains on a crisp January morning, I expand and become more of who I am. I have parts of me that are driven, fearful and more contracted. I have parts of me that are creative, are philosophic, and have wisdom – those are more expansive.

When I meditate, and go to my witness self, and reach to my higher Self, I expand and include more of my consciousness, more of my awareness. Think of self as being a continuum which includes my dark self, my child selves, my adult self, all aspects of personality that have developed as I have grown, and, my Higher Self, my Soul. Where we reside on that continuum determines our vibration and what we attract.

We move from awareness to awareness, from point of consciousness to another point of consciousness often in reaction to external events. Some one finds fault with us or our work. Our own inner critic joins in, our child self whimpers. At that moment, our adult self hopefully will intervene, soothe, and remember that no one is perfect. From the perspective of Soul or Self, you are already perfect in your imperfections. From the consciousness inside the critic however, there is no such concept.

Psychosynthesis is a spiritual philosophy that teaches us self awareness and how to develop the capacity to observe and direct self so that we are not at the mercy of our reactions but a center of consciousness that makes choices about where and how we identify self. Staying connected to Source and Self is an act of consciousness and awareness.
