The Secret that was edited out of Think and Grow Rich

The Secret that was edited out of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill was mentioned more than 9 times in the author’s preface. Andrew Carnegie asked Napoleon Hill if he would be willing to spend the next 20 years himself so to teach the secret to as many as would hear. And so began the distribution to thousands of the secret magic formula (now talked about as The Law of Attraction) to wealth, health and happiness.

The Secret that was edited out of Think and Grow Rich is not explicitly told. Why? According to Napoleon Hill “the Secret has been mentioned no fewer than a hundred times throughout this book. It has not been directly named, for it seems to work more successfully when it is merely uncovered and left in sight, where THOSE WHO ARE READY, and SEARCHING FOR IT, may pick it up. That is why Mr. Carnegie tossed it to me so quietly, without giving me its specific name.”

The Secret that was edited out of Think and Grow Rich is powerful. The original publishers must have been worried that the mass market would not buy a book that talked about things like vibration and the power of thought. They edited out more than 100 pages of the original manuscript. The Secret is very difficult to discern if your copy of Think and Grow Rich is around 270 pages; you have the edited version. My version has 387 pages. It was published in 1962 by Combined Registry Co in Chicago.

Here’s an excerpt that alludes to the Secret that was edited out of Think and Grow Rich. The Secret hinted here is on page 33.

“YOU ARE “THE MASTER OF YOUR FATE, THE CAPTAIN OF YOUR SOUL,” BECAUSE . . .

When Henley wrote the prophetic lines “I am the Master of my Fate, I am the Captain of my Soul,” he should have informed us that we are the Masters of our Fate, the Captains of our Souls because we have the power to control our thoughts.

He should have told us that the ether in which this little earth floats, in which we move and have our being, is a form of energy moving at an inconceivably high rate of vibration, and that the ether is filled with a form of universal power which ADAPTS itself to the nature of the thoughts we hold in our minds; and INFLUENCES us, in natural ways, to transmute our thoughts into their physical equivalent.

If the poet had told us of this great truth, we would know WHY IT IS that we are the Masters of our Fate, the Captains of our Souls. He should have told us, with great emphasis, that this power makes no attempt to discriminate between destructive thoughts and constructive thoughts, that it will urge us to translate into physical reality thoughts of poverty, just as quickly as it will influence us to act upon thoughts of riches.

He should have told us, too, that our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds, and, by means with which no man is familiar, these “magnets” attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts.”

The Secret was also heavily edited out of the movie “The Secret.” Publishers were afraid that the secret would not be accepted by the public. All you need do to have the secret unfold is to hold the intent in your mind that you will uncover the secret. Have a burning desire to discover this secret. You will attract books, people, TV programs, to you that will lead to your finding and understanding the
Secret that has been known through time.
